Oct is the month of RTS expansions!

Post by Fairweather Pure »

Dawn of War: Dark Crusade 10/9/06 -- Easily my most anticipated RTS expansion in memory. The depth and leader customization looks to add untold hours of gameplay to this legendary RTS.

Star Wars Empire at War: Forces of Corruption 10/16/06 -- game was pretty unbalanced, but the graphics/sound effects are great and the game had a reasonable amount of depth for a Star Wars game.

Age of Empires 3: The Warcheifs 10/17/06 -- I really like Age of Empires 3. Play-wise, it was kind of a replay of Age of Mythology, but once again, the graphics and sound effects add a lot to this RTS game for me. The expansion looks like fun to me.

Add to this the DVDs I'll be picking up (X-Men 3, Slither, Nacho Libre, An American Haunting, possibly Over the Hedge/Monster House/Art School Confidential) and you have one of the most expensive media months of the year for me.

October is making up for the past 3 lackluster months for home entertainment. Well, with the exception of Company of Heros that is! I wonder when they will have an expansion for that... :)

Yeah, BF 2142 looks like a lot of fun too. Not sure of the system requirements, but I can run BF 2 well enough. I just didn't get too much playtime out of BF 2 and I hesitate to get the new one. Especially if it's just 10 maps or something equally inusulting for 50$.

Medieval II deserves honorary mention, even though it's not an expansion. November third, I believe. I will be at the F'ing door waiting for that one.

Total War is the only RTS-ish game in years that I actually play.

Too many RTS's went the C&C route of WAY too much fucking complexity.

I still find it sad that you can't do Multiplayer Campaigns yet that allow for MP battles. I am interested in doing some online battles but I am not as fanatical as those who are in clans and such.

Company of Heroes took 6G or so and that was by far the most I have ever needed for any game. Funny that TW2 almost doubles that. Granted, it's all relative now. 11G just isn't too bad in the era of Terabyte Drives. It better come on 2 DVDs though. The thought of having to install 9 or 10 CDs is not something I look forward too. If they have a DVD version, but it costs more money, then I will skip it until it's in the cheapie bin.

I haven't seen many games that don't offer a DVD box, or where it costs more then the CD version in a long while.

How many games do you actually buy?

I know many games still come on only CD... and while it's becoming less and less common, a lot of distributors still like to slap some worthless shit in the box and put some worthless extras on the DVD and charge $10-15 more.

Did your Company of Heroes come on CD or DVD?

I was in a hurry when I stopped at the store, just grabbed the box and when I got home and it was 5 or 6 CDs I was kind of disappointed. Did they release it in both formats?

the "limited edition" was on DVD. I cannot remember the normal edition. I thought it was DVD as well.

4G on CoH. On my drive, FEAR and Oblivion are both bigger.

The CoH Limited addition was DVD only for 10$ or so more. The regular package was CD only. Btw, I like the fact that I do not have to have the CD in the tray in order to play the game. Every game should do this by default.

Minimum Spec on the CoH box is 6.5 Gigs, but they recommend having 1G of free space. It's install on my system is only 3.93G. I just looked at the specs and assumed...

WoW is 6G on my sytem, currently my largest game.

Speaking of Alexander...

When I try to run it now, a window pops up with the header "Trial Expired." It says "Your temporary key has expired. If you believe this message is in error, please contact the program's author."

It gives three options to click - Enter Key, Cancel, and Visit Website.

I'd gladly enter the key, except they didn't give a fucking key for the game since it was downloaded from the goddamn website.

I've reinstalled, I've contacted tech support, I've posted on the forums, I've checked FAQs. Nothing's working and nobody's responding. It wasn't a "trial" that I was running... I purchased the $15 game just like everybody else. What what what why?
