uTorrent issue?
uTorrent issue?
Anyone using the utorrent client having any issues with it resetting your connection? Seems after about 30ish min my internet connection stops working and can only be reserected by resetting the modem and router. I looked thru the faq and help for utorrent but no dice.

I have to set my max upload a little under what it's actually capable of (in terms of bandwidth) or my modem shits itself. Number of connections doesn't seem to bother it (but that's being handled on the linux box).

I find that it generally is anyhow if you don't download something in the first two days it is out. When I download something (bit torrent or otherwise) I want it to be done as fast as possible so I can burn it and get off of my computer, and other people using my bandwidth has the adverse effect.Xouqoa wrote:and if everybody did that BT would be a pretty useless protocol.Funkmasterr wrote:I just wish I could set my maximum number of uploads to 0.

So basically you want to leech other people's bandwidth but have them stay the fuck off your own?Funkmasterr wrote:I find that it generally is anyhow if you don't download something in the first two days it is out. Please rethink your position.Funkmasterr wrote:I find that it generally is anyhow if you don't download something in the first two days it is out. Normally I'd respond in a more assertive manner, but I know how sensitive you are to my comments so I'll just leave it at that.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
I'll bet you're the kind of guy that would fuck a person in the ass and not even have the goddam common courtesy to give him a reach-around. I'll be watching you.Funkmasterr wrote:I find that it generally is anyhow if you don't download something in the first two days it is out. Nice quote. And in my defense, on demonoid I have downloaded 4.73GB and uploaded 9. I will be honest and say this has happened more because I don't feel like getting out of bed to close UTorrent, but the fact stands.

If I'm reading that right: It was only your laziness that prevented you from being inconsiderate to others.Funkmasterr wrote:Nice quote. You're right, you wouldn't...because you're too fucking lazy to choose those words.Funkmasterr wrote:Well I don't know that I would choose those words..noel wrote:If I'm reading that right: It was only your laziness that prevented you from being inconsiderate to others.Funkmasterr wrote:Nice quote. Allow me to elaborate a bit. I am far from the only person using my bandwidth. I do not want to leave my computer on to allow a bunch of people that I don't know to suck down my bandwidth, meanwhile other people at my house have to have dial up like connection speed because of this.
I will not limit my upload speed because it also limits my download speed, so there is no good solution to the problem for me.

No solution or no solution you've thought of...
http://games.dlink.com/products/?pid=370&#DGL-4300
QoS on the router.
Very frankly, if you don't want to share your bandwidth, you shouldn't be using a protocol that was specifically designed around people sharing their bandwidth. I would respectfully implore you to become informed about Giganews and Newsleecher as an alternative to leeching other people's bandwidth without sharing your own.

The only problem with those other options Noel (Newsleecher, etc) is that they cost money. I will never again from now until the day I die pay for another cd or dvd, so another monthly (or even yearly) bill for online shit isn't an option for me.
I will have to weigh my options on the router I buy next (I am looking to buy one right now anyhow) So that I can manage stuff a bit more. Thanks for the suggestion!

there are free options for usenet. Check with your ISP and see if they have usenet servers avaialbe, or search for free usenet servers. There are several free newsreaders you can use also.
While the quality of the binaries you find off free servers is sometimes questionable and retention times are usually lower if you pay attention you can usually download whatever you want.
