Gear for Feral

Post by Bubba Grizz »

I think Fair is probably the best to answer this but all responses are welcome.

Being a Feral Druid that does not raid MC yet, what is the best tanking bear gear I can reasonably get by hitting places like scholo, strat, ubrs and the like? I need to know what items I should be on the look for in the AH as well. I recently got a Warden Staff. Thanks.

A halfway decent guide is at http://www.wow-loot.com. It breaks it down by spec or just by class for each instance. It also lists quest rewards for each as well. I have used it to get a basic idea of what to watch for while doing content I hadn't done with my druid before.

My server is down atm, but I have an all blue gear list that will give you enough stats to do pretty much anything you'd want to do in this game. The only purples I use for feral are Darkmoon Cards, Darkmoon Necklace, and a Warden Staff (as if that even counts as epic). Wait, I just got the Ceneraion rep cloak the other night too, and I now use that for cat.

The rest of my feral gear is blue, but also has the proper enchants to go with them. I'll list where I got them and other useful info as well.

Pvp till your a warlord?

Really wish there was a raid armor set that was for ferals =/ Even a "hand in your gay moose helm" quest to convert it or something would be nice.

BEAR

Head - Southwind Helm - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=52892 AQ20
This replaced my Bonering helm that I got from Scholo ages ago and also replaced my cat helm, the eye of rend. This is a great item for a feral druid.

Neck - Amulet of the Darkmoon - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=43504 - solo quested
Great for both cat and bear.

Shoulder - Wyrmtongue Shoulders - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=17206 - Stratholm

Back - Cloak of Warding - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=35977 - crafted
Best non-epic bear cloak in the game.

Chest - Tombstone Breastplate - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=18954 - Scholomance
We really have shit choices for BPs. Yes, this is weak sauce, but it gets the job done.

Wrist - Scaled Bracers of the Gorger - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=52761 - AQ20

Hands - Slaghide Gauntlets of the Monkey - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=16905 - LBRS
The stats vary on this item. I got lucky and got the best tanking stats available.

Waist - Belt of Preserved Heads - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=51071 - ZG Quest
Replaced my Cloudrunner girdle from BRD. Cloudrunner is still an excellent belt and I keep it around to swap for specific situations.

Legs - Animist's Leggins - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=51201 - ZG drop
I still swap these out for Abyssal Leather Legs of Striking depending on the situation.

Feet - Ash Covered Boots - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=37271 - Stratholme

Ring 1 - Ring of Protection - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=3919 - Quested

Ring 2 - Naglering - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=5297 - BRD
I have another ring with more AC, but the other stats on this are nice.

Trinket 1 - Heroisim Card - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=40883 - Bought in AH ofr 250g
Best goddamn buy I've ever made in the AH. I love this trinket for bear. When soloing, it's almost cheating. The trick is to always fight 3-4 mobs at once and just swipe , swipe, swipe. Unlimited rage and the heals proc like crazy.

Trinket 2 - Mark of Tyranny - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=13103 - Quested
The other choice was the +2% crit trinket. Offensive trinkets are fairly common, while this is pretty much the only defensive trinket in the game. It was an easy choice, especially since my cat trinkets are superior to the +2% crit.

Weapon - Warden Staff - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=12314 - Bought in AH for 200g
I added +25 AGI on this. It's a lvl 48 epic item that I really cannot justify swapping out for any other weapon in the game that I have access to. I'm closing in on CC exhalted faction for the Mace of Unending Life, but I'll always keep this around thanks to the healthy AC.

Idol - Idol of Brutality - http://www.thottbot.com/?i=53608 - Strath Baron side
I got this on my 5th Baron run after it was put in the game and have only seen it drop 1 other time in the 30ish runs since. I think it is the best out of all our class idols. It makes the most impact, especially when used in conjunction with a full feral build.

BEAR STATS

STR 139
AGI 239
STA 271
INT 156
SPI 140
AC 11418
HP 5253

Atk 299
Power 528
Dmg 225 - 285

Dodge 16.65%
Crit 23.85%

I can arrange my equipment for 28% crit and 19% dodge at the expense of about 1k AC, which I frequently do. The above is just a good base start. I'll list my cat gear in another post. With the above gear, you can duel and beat people with gear twice as good (especially warriors in my experiance). Rogues better have stunlock or get the jump on you first to stand a decent chance. A little goes a long way with a feral druid. Raid buffed, my mauls crit for about 1-1.2k on clothies and about 750-900 on plate.

All enchants for bear should be STA, AGI, and +dodge/+threat.

Btw, are you primarily a bear or a cat druid? The way our talents work out, we can truely "specialize" in 1 form, but the other is awefully close if you have the gear to support it.

I'm bear first and foremost with cat as secondary. My best friend is the opposite and has cat as primary and bear as his secondary. He recently dropped from full resto (been resto since release!) and is absolutely loving feral.

EXAMPLES

My current Bear Feral Spec
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=zzLV0oZxxxscrdtV

My Friend's Cat Spec
http://www.wowhead.com/?talent=zzLV0oZEbMcfrdtV

If you compare them side by side, you'll see very subtle differences. If you have a cat build, gear can fill in the gapes for bear by having very high AC to make up for the loss of Thick Hide, and you can get the +threat glove enchant in order to make up for only having 3 pts in Feral Instinct.

My bear build lets me play a pretty sick cat form as well, thanks to high crit/hit, and high STR gear. Long term, a cat build should pull ahead of me, but I don't dps on raid bosses, I am healing. On trash mobs and 5-10 man raids, it's pretty much luck of the dice as for who out of the 2 of us is highest dps because the mobs die so fast.

Wonderful. Most of that stuff is attainable at our current raid status. I am going primarily bear spec because I mostly solo and I tend to die more in cat form on my own. Thanks much for that list.

This should give you a lot of ideas for gear:

Apparently, it's a furry convention. I found it on hoofshots.

Every time i see convention photos like that, I kinda want to just see a group of nerds decked in full klingon garb go postal in such a place. Actually, make that for just about any convention really... furry conventions, anime conventions, the national republican convention. Yeah, it'd be cool for any of them.
