Assholes
So, tonight I went to a house party in Iowa City. I parked in a nearby apartment parking lot with multiple open spaces. When I go to leave I found my truck thankfully. However, I found my truck with both side mirrors busted off. I'll go further, one was pushed towards the hood as it was broken off and the other was towards the bed as it was broken off. From where I sit I can only belive that it was some person pissed off that I parked in their "spot" as there are four other spots in the fucking lot. At this point I'm rather pissed and rather at a loss of words. Why would you fucking do that. It's not like there were no other spots to park in, nor were there signs that said "you'll have your mirrors busted off if you park here." I'd much rather have the fucking thing towed. I'm thinking it will cost at least 300+ to have these replaced. That's if I buy the parts myself, which I will. I'm just curious where people get off on doing this shit. I'd never do that to another person and I don't really understand where people get the idea that it's ok.

Iowa City being a college town makes the possibility of finding asshats much higher. Most likely some young punk trying to impress his buddys by being a bad ass against a car!Tinkin Tankem wrote:So, tonight I went to a house party in Iowa City. If the spot was marked as their's, then I think you are the asshole. When I used to live in an apartment, I had 3 cars towed because they were in my spot. Yes, I had other places to park, but then I'd be stealing someone elses spot. You probably won't park in their spot next time.
If it wasn't marked, then they are total fucking assholes. How are you suppose to know?

As someone who's lived in many different apartment complexes, I can say that 99% of them did NOT have reserved or assigned parking spaces.

There were multiple othe spots open in the lot when I parked there and when I left. As for being assigned, they could have been. A friend of mine lived in a place last year that had two rows of assigned parking and one for guests. To the naked eye however, you would have no idea.
I'm still somewhat pissed about the whole situation. I did find out that the mirrors would only cost 60$ to replace, and it's something I can do easily on my own. Initially I was thinking this was going to be atleast 200$+ which naturally would have sucked a lot more.

What? I have never heard of an apartment building that didn't have assigned parking. Why? So numbtards going to parties 2 blocks away don't consider it their own personal parking lot.Siji wrote:Very weak attempt at trolling.kyoukan wrote:If it was an apartment parking lot of course it was someone's spot and you deserve everything you got.

There are a lot of unassigned parking lots for apartments around here.
And still, vandalizing a vehicle and doing real damage that's going to cost somebody money just because of a minor inconvenience makes you a fucking dickwad.

Mostly depends on where you live. In the city most of the apartment places have assigned parking and would more than likely get you towed. Out in the suburbs it's more relaxed since they usually have sprawling complexes. There's usually numbered parking close but also unassigned parking further away. At least in my experience that's how it has been.

No he didn't, he said it could have been assigned.Cartalas wrote:He already said there were no assigned parking spots, Again you failed to read again you are stupid that is all.kyoukan wrote:If it was an apartment parking lot of course it was someone's spot and you deserve everything you got.
Every single apt complex in the USA has assigned parking. You can usually tell because it's covered. Uncovered spots are not assigned. If you parked in a covered spot you parked in someone's spot and they should have just had you towed.
sixty bucks to fix your mirrors is cheaper than getting it out of impound anyway. you should thank the guy.
if you really want to know who did it then hang out there and wait til someone parks in that spot. then kick his mirrors off.

haha, oh irony. He already said there were no assigned parking spots, Again you failed to read again you are stupid that is all.
If there were signs, then you should have been towed. I feel the destruction of property is a bit too cowboy-vigilante-esque justice really. If they were assigned parking spots AND there weren't visible signs, I'd blame the (probably) lazy and apathetic apartment owners/management for not actually making the assigned parking spots apparent.
My last apartment i lived at the management painted huge numbers on every assigned parking spot... about 50 years prior to me living there. As such, no one really could tell which spot was there's easily. After a while we could get the feel for it, but otherwise it was a fight to get a spot. I'd wager the management got lazy and cheap and didn't go out of their way to mark the spots. It's not uncommon.

Pretty ballsy to vandalize a car in your spot that's also where you live. A determined person with half a brain could take some serious revenge. *hint hint* You just can't dwell on it. If it was an honest mistake to park there, learn from it...if you parked there knowingly and "risked" it, then risk didn't pay off.
As I recall from college, most apartments I lived in or were around had assigned parking and numbers. Covered vs non covered was also another big clue as to assigned vs open parking.

Every single Apt. complex does not have assigned parking spots. QFT! On both counts. Even the one apartment complex I can think with reserved parking has it VERY clearly marked (painted pavement, a large sign in front of every spot and an even larger sign saying, "GUEST PARKING ON THE LEFT" when you pull in). If it were my spot and someone else was in it, they would either be blind or retarded.Neziroth wrote:There are a lot of unassigned parking lots for apartments around here.

At the place I used to live in St. Pete, my complex had no assigned spots. It was gated, so it never seemed to be an issue.
Except this one time, I got home real early, and found a spot right in front of my building. Usually there was this "classic" 1981 t-bird (or something, all those 80's POS cars look alike to me) parked there, so naturally, I parked there.
The next morning, there was a pile of shit on my windshield. Not like a little bit, it looked like someone shit in a bag, and then dumped it on my car. So fucking nasty.
I wish I would have been more creative, but I just slashed his tires. I should have gone to the dogtrack next door and buried his car in dogshit.
