New version of Star Wars Ep4 on DVD today.

Post by Animalor »

These are the DVD's they were talking about thath ave both the 1977 and 2004 versions of the movies in one package.

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/ ... 43-2363365

If you don't own any Star Wars DVD's(like I do) then this could be considered a good buy.

If you already own Star Wars on DVD and you don't give a rat's ass if Greedo shot first or not, then I wouldn't bother.

Isn't this the thing with the horrible quality versions of the originals? Fuck Lucas and his spitting on the fans of the movies.

I believe it has the un-modified original(not the remastered 1990's re-release) and the Special Edition print.

I currently don't own and SW movies and will wait for a set to come out that has all the movies in 1 boxed set.

I'll be specifially looking for 1 through 3 and Special Ed 4 to 6.

Read its the unmodified version of the Laserdisc edition, and should be in pretty video quality. Even if i didnt have the trilogy, i would stay away from this one.

so let me get this straight. first you bitch when they dont release the original theatrical release, then when they do, you complain about video quality, even though you bitch about his last attempt at digital remastering? you guys sure are picky.

Bah, I already have the original Star Wars on Laserdisc....somewhere hidden away with all my other laserdics in a box! I'll break out the old player for classics night.

The video quality was ok as far as I could tell back then via an s-video connection. I don't care about special effects, etc when it comes to Star Wars. I'd rather see it in it's original form. Unlike a lot of the Sci Fi crap of today, the story and acting (ok, mostly story) carry the movie as much as the special effects.

You're assuming that the people bitching about one thing are the same people bitching about the other.

I didnt like the change that Greedo now shoots first, but hell, ill live. But apart from that i dont mind the new version, and i would take a new remastered edition, even with a few modifications i dont like, that affect maybe 10 seconds in the 3 movies total, over a release that havent been digitally remastered so it look like shit :).

People: What's with the fucking with Star Wars?

George: It's my original vision, I just didn't have the money or the deathstar full of computers to realise it in the 70's

People: Fuck that you're pissing on my childhood memories with this crap, I just want the original movie, that showed in the theatres when I was a kid.

George: (aside) Fuck it, we can make a crapload more cash off these losers, what's the cheapest, easiest way to do this now that I've destroyed all the theatrical masters to protect my vision?

George: Ok, ok, I'll release a super special box set with BOTH versions on it! Of course, I'll have to charge you for 6 movies, postage, packaging, and that extra special something added. *promptly wipes his ass with a laserdisc and throws it to a peon to convert to DVD*

Zamtuk: (in 8 year old geek fanboi voice) YEAH, aren't you people ever happy?! Come on, let's go Daddy.. I mean Mr Lucas, sir.

Remastering to make the movie look better (more vibrant colors, better sound quality) is one thing.. changing scenes and adding things that weren't there at all before is another. I don't much care either way, but for some that's a big deal.

I liked the original ET. But there's not a chance in hell I'd buy a copy with the rifles changed to walkie-talkies.
