What was up with the Texas D last night? My lord, there were several plays that OSU could have snapped the ball and nobody from Texas would have been in any semblance of a set position. It was just sad. The announcers were talking about how the defensive suspensions were a big part of the problem, but it was far more than that.

Congrats on beating the High School of Texas at Austin last night. That's all they played like. :(

I'd argue that, I thought the Longhorns brought the defense. Even more so than the Buckeyes in my opinion. Texas was just rolling on the ground, they just couldn't move shit through the air.

Comparing them to a high school team is just diminishing Ohio State's victory, I thought they were a very tough team and I enjoyed the game immensely.

I miss OSU's Offensive Defense. :)

I am guessing that you missed most of the last three seasons (or more) of the Texas games when I say their defense was missing. If that's what you call good D in the Big 10, we should play more Big 10 teams! There was no intensity after the first quarter that was anything like what we're used to. The offense WAS doing good on the ground, but it couldn't keep up with what the D was allowing plus turnovers.

OSU beat the #2 ranked team in the polls, but the #2 ranked team seemed to forget they were not playing North Texas. That's not taking anything away from OSU. It is me saying that the D sucked throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters more than I have ever seen them suck. Shit, Smith was UNDER CENTER before any of the D-Line was even NEAR their places on the line 2-3 plays in a row!

Also remember that your defense was playing what is almost unanimously regarded as the #1 offense in the country. Ohio State lost 9 defensive starters from last year, and is still #1 across the board based on the strength of their offense.

I also think Texas came into this season overrated after losing Vince Young, who was a HUGE part of their success the last couple seasons. Moreso than any other individual that I can think of in recent memory. That guy won games by himself.

Correct, I don't regularly watch Texas play.

As for the defense, I don''t think it was good at ALL. I thought OSU's defense sucked in comparison to last year's (which is in accordance with the Sylvus-mentioned loss of 9 defensive starters). OSU needs to actually ratchet it up a notch on the defense or we'll have a loss soon. The Big 10 is not an easy conference.

That guy won a national title by himself. The Texas D sure as hell didn't do shit against USC.

The Buckeyes should be number 1 until the inevitable choke in conference play. My money is on them leaving #1 some place in Iowa or Minnesota :P

After the 2003 season, USC met Michigan in their postseason bowl game and went on to be 2004 National Champions. After 2004, Texas met Michigan in their postseason bowl game and went on to be 2005 National Champions. You know who is going to win it all this year? Nebraska!

Bet all your money on them beating USC this weekend, Zam. You won't be sorry!

(disclaimer: don't really bet all your money on Nebraska, ever)

Maybe. Maybe not :) Only time will tell. Although I think it'd be the best game of the year if ND showed up to play.

The AU - LSU game is probably going to be close. I give the Edge to LSU though. Miss. St. gave AU fits when they tried to run the ball and LSU has a much better front 7 they also have one of the best back fields in football. LSU also looks to have a really good O.

Neb - USC game I hope Neb wins but I think USC is going to take that one.

Florida - Tenn game I think Fla is going to take that one.

A shame OSU wont get to stomp you in Arizona now that you lost to Michigan.

How possible is it that OSU can face Michigan twice this year? If it goes into a 1 v 2 game at the end of the season (USC has to lose to ND, Cal, or Oregon, which they will) could either Michigan or OSU face each other for the championship? My guess is if either team loses really close, like by 1 or 2, then it could happen. WVU plays Louisville, so there goes one of those teams. Texas is at 5 which means that if OSU/UM is a close game then in all likelyhood they won't drop behind Texas in the polls. If you remember they did the same thing back in 1996 with UF/FSU. And as a title game, how historic would that be?

You're not going to stomp us even once this season.

Nov. 18 is going to be a close game either way, but Michigan is going to win!

I hate them both but I will watch the game. Should be a good one and the winner really should be considered best in the country.

Trivia:

OSU just passed Arizona State as the largest campus in the country (on their main campus). Both have 51,xxx students.

Say what you want about academics, but who cares! The heat in Arizona provides better scenery with all the short shorts!

It's probably not hard to have 50,000+ students when all that's required to get in is that you be able to sign your name on the application. I think you can even get help from your parents or your guidance counselor if you need it.

When you turn 18 in Ohio, you have the choice of either becoming a truck driver or going to OSU (if your driving record isn't so good).

For ASU, it's all the East and Midwest students looking to escape the THO syndrome of those areas and get some sun!

its a state school that boasts the second best business school in the region (yeah fuck you sylvus) that beats out chicago (undergrad). and also has maybe the best medical school in the area (i know that UM is neck and neck with us). the school itself is a fucking joke to get into, however if you want to do anything successful inside of it, like get into any of the top schools (engineering, med, bus) you have to work your fucking ass off. I am in the business school and it I can be kicked out at anytime for letting my gpa fall under a 3.2.

any state school is really easy to get in, but when you have a better football team than michigan and a much better bar scene (i have been in both), it helps you sleep much better at night.

I just wrote an enormous post about problems facing state schools and how a few select schools have been able to rise above the rest when I realized that this is a thread about football, so I deleted it. But if anyone wants to talk about the structure of higher education and the merits of various ways of organizing it, start a thread and I guarantee you'll have at least one vigorous participant.

Any state school in Ohio, I'm assuming you mean? Michigan is tough to get into, that's why we're proud of being alumni. Correct me if I'm wrong, I thought OSU was open enrollment and anyone who graduated high school could go there?

And your football team is not better, you guys sure have selective memories that only go back the last 5 years or so.

I've only been to the bars there a couple times, nothing to write home about. It's a bigger city though so you definitely have more!

Weren't you going to go to Michigan until you didn't get in or some other circumstances prevented it? Keep it real, Zamtuk!

Sueven, feel free to go wherever you like with your posts... I'm more interested in football and talking shit in this thread, but I'll certainly read your post wherever you decide to put it.

Yeah, post that Sueven.

Sylvus, you can't compare OSU to UM. UM is not a state school, however MSU is. MSU/OSU gets better funding, government grants, etc. than smaller schools like UM, OU and what not. I'm sure that Sueven will cover that more in his post. Quite honestly, I'm not sure why a)we have that many people going here and b)why, aside from living here or sports, you would want to go to a school in Columbus, Ohio. And by spending all my days at OSU, I couldnt tell you where 65% of this 51000 figure is. More than likely just moonlighting as students to get football tickets.(you'll be happy to know that 1/2 of our student section will be sold to the highest bidder ala ebay or the like, shit, tickets are breaking 1k a pop)

Yeah, I was going to UM before I couldn't due to grades. Apparently a 3.8 gpa wasn't kosher with them. However, while my friend (a massive UM fan) got in, being ranked number 2 in our class, he was offered no scholarship what so ever and had to go to Miami (OH)(lolol).

And finally, we tend to disregard that entire John Cooper era, much like you guys tend to disregard Gary "lets throw lobsters" Moeller. And yes, Tressel > Carr.

Pardon us for actually GRADUATING people. I guess people in some schools forget that in college it is supposed to be partying first, being educated second, and then everything else. Pretty sad state of affairs when schools are ranked by their athletic departments instead of the actual academics that supposedly occur there.
