windows media connect help
So I tried to get this crap installed for my 360 and it cannot find my 360 at all when it gets to the authorize step. I don't really know what to say, the 360 connects to the internet fine, I have SP2 installed on XP..
When I try to open the wmc software it says it could not be started, if I go into services.msc and try to start it there it bitches at me about dependencies and I'm not sure what the fuck is going on.
The exact error says:
Could not start the Windows Media Connect Service service on Local Computer.
Error 1068: The Dependency service or group failed to start.

I like it quite a bit. Game shines online and when you have a good squad. I have about 80 hours played or so with 20 or so being offline playing through the SP for the mech parts and the achievements.MooZilla wrote:Go with the easy route and just plug your keyboard or mouse into a USB port. Offtopic, but Animalor how is Chromehounds? I've noticed its in your XBL sig. I'm thinking about picking up a 360 just for this game. I was a hardcore MechWarrior player back in the day.
If you want to read the reviews, the one from teamxbox is the most accurate
Just a warning though, this isn't one of those anime-type, ultrafast/ultra mobile arcade mech game(a la Mech Assault). The Hounds are more like ultra-advanced tanks. This is more of a slower, tactical combat game.
I've looked this trailer and 90% is it is multiplayer games and is pretty spot on to what the game looks like.

It really is a love it or hate it game. I love it and play it almost nightly. Stragi hated it and I believe traded it in already.

No idea if you're running the McAfee suite. That gave me tons of problems finding my xbox until I uninstalled McAfee Privacy Manager. Apparently the two things are completely NOT compatible.
If you don't have that, don't know that I can help.

Basically he told me to buy a new router or call Gigafast (my router now) and ask them. I don't think they acutally have people working there. (At Gigafast)
All that ended up happening was me adding exceptions for Windows Firewall which already exist when you install Windows Media Connect and the Firewall isn't even turned on.
The only thing I have installed is Avira AntiVir and Ad-aware which the tech told me has a firewall built into it. That was pretty sweet.

The router is a Gigafast E400-RP
I am at work and I won't be home until 6pm PST so I can't get you the dxdiag yet.
My network is setup like this:
In the den I have my cable modem plugged into the router and the den computer plugged in there as well. My house has cat5 in the walls from the den to my bedroom so I have a short cable from the router also plugged into the wall and then into my bedroom. From my bedroom wall I run a cable into a hub which has my computer and my xbox/xbox 360 plugged into it. None of the devices have trouble getting online.
Also it's all cat-5 cable, nothing fancy like cat-5e or crossover.

Is the stuff you want to stream from your bedroom computer or your den computer?*~*stragi*~* wrote:The router is a Gigafast E400-RP

Hmm. I just installed Media Connect on my laptop here at work from http://www.xbox.com/en-US/pcsetup/alldownloads.htm and I was looking at the services I told you about and they were all set to manual but started for me.
There's also HTTP SSL service that needs to be turned on for this to work.
Tell you what, better than the DXDiag.
When you get home, go back into services.msc and attempt to start the Windows Media Connect service again. After it fails, open up the eventvwr.msc, save the Application and System logs and e-mail those to the address I PM'ed you this morning. Those will give us much better clues to what's failing and then research can be done on how to fix it if it isn't obvious.

so after getting upnp service to start wmc would start and stop instantly and the setup still wouldn't find my xbox. i fucked around with the registry editor and set all the permissions for wmc to full access like i did for upnp host but that didn't get me anywhere.
blah
in the event viewer i found that error message about initializenetwork monitoring with the hex address but on google the only thing with the same error was for a different part of wmc (something other than initializenetwork monitoring)
so then i played some nnn
