Flash Backs

Post by Gonzoie - Luclin »

So tonight was my last night working at one of my jobs, Hollywood Video/GameCrazy, and i thought i would end it by watching my all time favorite movies. It took me a while to figure out just what they were, but when i did work was great..

First movie i played, not really one of my all time favorites but this is what got me into the feeling for playing them, was Anastasia. Although its not one of my favorites, i thoroughly enjoy this movie, and the music. I still dont understand why the people in the beginning are so happy about the French Revolution, but whatever, its a kids movie. Christopher Lloyds part is amazing, and Meg Ryan does a stand up job playing Ana.

Onto my favorites..

The next movie i played was a movie i have been watching ever since i was a kid, Never Ending Story. I have always loved this movie, and my mother was the type of mom who let me watch virtually anything i wanted, but somehow always found those good kids movies that i just latched on to. I take it the majority, if not all, of the people who use this forum have seen this movie, if not, go pick it up. Its a classic movie and deserves to be watched. Forget about some of the cheesy effects and how bad Falcor looks, cause i doubt a luck dragon looks that anamatronic. But besides that, the movie is great, with a nice storyline.

The next movie i played, being my second favorite of all time behind the next movie, was Labrynth. I have taken polls on a steady basis at Hollywood Video, on customers and employees, and have found that the majority of the people born from 70's and 80's have not seen this movie. Me being born in 1986 and with a mother who always found those wierd movies for me to watch, and i enjoyed 80% of them. I always loved this movie since i first watched it, and my older brother ( 2.5 year difference ) used to cry when Toby was taken away by the goblins cause he thought it could happen to me.. mind you, we used to watch this movie when we were very young. Jennifer Connolly does a great job in this movie, as well as David Bowie, who plays the goblin king. If you like twisted style movies, with a little Jim Henson thrown in there for good measure, check out this movie if you haven't. The soundtrack is quite nice too. Its like listening to a David Bowie CD. Great movie, good storyline, good acting, and great casting.

The final movie i put in, and at the most appropriate time due to its demonic type of feel, was my all time favorite movie, Legend. Similar to Labrynth i have taken polls in work to find that the majority of people who entered my store, didn't even know this movie existed. The movie was made in 1987, and stars Tim Curry and Tom Cruise ( Before he went mad ). This movie is nearly perfect in every way, except the ending, its a little corny how the devil loses. The soundtrack seems to be done completely by one band, and in the most appropriate fashion, Yes. There are no lyrics in any of the song segments until the very end, which give the movie that much more essence to the film itself. The movie is a bit slow at parts, but still, its a great movie and everything plays out well. Just like the other three movies, i suggest picking this one up if you have never seen it.

Now maybe you aren't all into these types of movies, but i thought it would be fun to see what some of you would consider to be your favorite movies of all time. I have several other movies that i consider my favorites, but i feel strongly about those three.

Some other movies i would consider amongst my favorites are...

Mighty Ducks 1 and 2. ( 3 was alright, but it lost its feel for the other 2 id say )
3 Ninjas
Dark Crystal
Pirates of the Carribean
GoodFellas
LoTR Trilogy
Flight of the Navigator
TMNT 1 and 2
Ghostbusters 1 and 2

Anyways, let me hear what you guys think about those movies, and put in some of your own. Its always nice to see what people consider their top movies of all time.

Rain Man is probably my favorite.

Full Metal Jacket, Shawshank Redemption, Princess Bride and Gangs of New York would round out the top 5 in no particular order.

I don't think there are any animated films I would put in my top 5. Or even 10.

I don't think "best movies" can be summed up in a single top 10 list. The list changes drastically based on my mood at the time. I could list top 5's by genre though!

Top 5:
Comedies
Action
Animation (this would have to be 2 seperate, childrens and other)
Horror
War
Drama
Series (ie: Star Wars, LotR, Harry Potter, Matrix, ect)
Sci Fi
Western
Documentary
Musical
Suspense
Romance
There could even be a horror & comedy subcategory (Ghostbusters, Frightners, Evolution, ect)
Superhero Movies
Movie Parodies (Airplane, Scary Movie, ect)
Martial Arts

Anyway, you get my point.

A better question might be to ask what movie is in your top ten that probably isn't in anyone else's to save time.

Mine would be Hackers.
