You must be watching a different Miami team then I saw today, and also must not know who Maurice Clarett is nor Steven Krenzel. Miami is not noted for their defense to the run game, actually it's ranked around the bottom 10% in the country. Saying that OSU won't score 1 TD is a bit harsh, I actually think it'll be a good game.
How many TD's did Ohio State score in their last 3 games? 5 and one of those was in OT. Now yesterday Mcgahee scores 6 alone.
And the two games that gave them the most trouble were against teams that were 6 and 6 and 5 and 7. Yes underdogs do usually play harder because they have nothing to lose. But going into OT w/ a 5 and 7 team comon.

And how many TD's did the opposing teams score in those Ohio State games and how many did Va Tech score yesterday against Miami? Clarrett is going to be much healther... I'm beginning to think it's going to be more of a game than I had initially thought. Miami had some difficulties with some less-than-stellar teams this year themselves. What it all comes down to is that they both found a way to win when they had to. Or the opposing teams kicker found a way to choke and lose when he had to.

Miami is soft on the run because they refuse to go out of cover-2 defense, keeping the safeties back. That is why their pass defense was rated #1 at least part of the year.
OSU won't be able to pass on them, and teams that think you don't need to pass to win in college football nowadays are dead wrong.
Maurice CLarrett is awesome for sure, but the pressure is going to be on OSU's quality defense to come up huge. They may stop McGahee, but they won't be able to without putting several UM receivers in single coverage, and that could translate into big plays.
Not sure how good OSU's quarterback is, but he is going to need to have a great game.

the houston win was a total fluke. they scored 3 touchdowns on defense. yes if OSU scores 3 touchdowns on defense they should have a decent chance to win.Raistin [FoH] wrote:You don't need to pass to win fucker! When your running backs run for @300 yards a game wtf!
Not to mention looking at this weekend NFL game. Texas won with a total of 45 yards offensive yardage. Not one score was during the offensive. They won 27- 7.
that is a pretty unlikely scenario though.

Voronwe,
Krenzel is the #8 QB
Dorsey is #10
This is from espn according to rating.
One of the 2 QBs has this line:
141/228 1988yds 12TD 5Int 29Sacks
the other has these stats:
194/350 3073Yds 26TD 10Int 8Sacks
OSU averaging over 2 sacks allowed per game, with a guy who isnt a big time thrower (low yardage, low TDs), who has had the good fortune to go up against defenses who are stacking up the safeties to stop Clarrett as well.
Dorsey is a lot better than Krenzel in my opinion. (No i'm not somebody who thinks Dorsey should win the Heisman).

Krenzel may not have outstanding numbers. But he has numbers when it counts, and he doesn't do stupid things to lose games for you. Also he is underated in his ability to make big first downs with his feet also.
I think OSU has just as good a shot as any other team in the nation.
Who else would have a better shot at miami than OSU?

OK =D here is how I think the two teams match up.
Miami: Mcgahee is a phenom. No doubt about that. Miami's O-Line is VERY good. Dorsey's eight sacks had a lot of help from their stellar line. Dorsey can also get the ball downfield--he is not, however, a Palmer. Miami has a great receiving corp, but they also have a big leadership type injury in Kevin Beard. Defensively, Miami is strong again. A huge front 8 that will send a fair amount of players to the pros. For one reason or another they have been underachieving this year against the run, giving up an average of 170 ypg. I would assume playing Ohio State they will load the box like everyone else has. It's only smart. If they can force Ohio State to throw, and shut down Clarett (banking on him being healthy), they will have a much easier time. Special teams aren't great for Miami. They had some problems with coverage against Virginia Tech, which lead straight to TD's. Their kicker is also nothing to brag about.
Ohio State: Clarett, Clarett, Clarett. This is the key to Ohio State's victory. They *cannot* win against Miami without him. With Ohio State's super run oriented offense (which actually can probably be attributed to Krenzel's audibles) no other back on the Bucks will be able to shoulder this load. His ability to wear down any defense, even a loaded 8 man front is unbelievable. And if Miami plays like they have been, the Bucks shouldn’t have a hard time running Clarett. Krenzel should not be overlooked either. He is a capable quarterback that is actually pretty fast. If a hole opens, look for him to book it down field. I truely believe that Ohio State's receivers are some of the most underrated in the country. Jenkins can haul the long ball in, and Gamble has proved to be an amazing playmaker. On defense the Bucks have one of the best-run defenses in the country. I am concerned with Mcgahee busting a few long ones with his 4.2 speed.... but we'll see what happens. Larry Johnson was good too and only racked up 70 yards against us. The arial defense is Ohio State's weak point. Gamble can make the plays, but is still learning the positions--and Doss is no cover safety. Miami will pick on Dustin Fox. It’s a fact the Buckeyes will have to accept. Nugent and Groom round the Buckeyes off, giving them the ability to score by the foot and pin Miami at the other end of the field.
Really, the Buckeyes and 'Canes are a great match up. I'm a little surprised everyone believes that Miami will destroy the Buckeyes. I'm not saying the Buckeyes will win (although I hope they do!), but Miami is not the team they were in 2002. All the doubters help the Bucks out though--so we'll see what happens. I think it could have been worse. If the Bucks had ended up playing USC I would have been scared...now THAT could have been a slaughtering.

And I love how all the the Michigan fans try to act like one of the largest rivalries in College football means nothing to them.
I mean I am not disputing the record during the last decade or two, but then John Cooper never was able to get the team up for the last two games of the year.

Oh, it doesn't mean nothing to us, it's a very important game and traditionally a great rivalry.
But we're the winningest team in college football, and with that comes a number of great rivalries to get excited for all year long. We just don't have the energy to focus on you guys.

resting on your laurels i'd say.
only 1 national championship in football in the last 50 years.
Not quite befitting an elite program with those results
the big rivalry games are fun and anything goes.
i'm really impressed by the 2 national titles in "Men's Trampoline" though

Feh! Let me reiterate the fact that the Big 10 is the toughest conference in college football, and as such it makes it way more difficult to win a National Championship. Actually having at least 5 or 6 good teams in the conference every year makes it much more difficult to run the table.
But yeah, I suppose I'm resting on our laurels. I should probably forget about our #1 in total wins, #2 in win percentage and 11 National Championships.
Yeah, Kobe Bryant has been a bit more dominant than Michael Jordan the last couple years, who would you say is better?

5 years is less than 50
so if that Kobe thing makes you feel good, hey that's great, but it is not even close to the same type of comparison
Sylvus even Georgia Tech has won 1 national championship in the last 50 years!!!
But lets also be honest about the Big 10. Ohio State and Iowa are damn good football teams. Penn St and Michigan are competitive teams that can potentially be tough for good teams.
THe 5th place team is Purdue. Purdue lost to Wake Forest, the smallest university that fields a division I football team and the 7th place team in the ACC.
6th place team Illinois, they suck.
if there are 2 teams worse than Michigan State in your conference as well, it can't be that great

I'm not saying Miami is not a good program, Voro. They have done very well the last 20 years. Though that's a small sample of the overall history of college football, much like how I was trying to compare Kobe and Jordan.
History is what makes a great program. So we had a drought for a bit, look at it this way, Miami and Michigan have both won one National Championship in the last 5 years...
I believe your assessment of the Big 10 is based on this year. To call Penn St. or Michigan a "competitive" team overall is a bit offensive, though neither of us were that fantastic this year. Of course, we are the 11th ranked team and had the 2nd hardest strength of schedule, with our 3 losses coming to top 10 teams. But yeah, that's relatively mediocre.
Please don't even try to compare the Big East to the Big 10, that's laughable. I'll admit, sometimes I get confused on which teams are ACC or SEC or Big East, which conference perennially fields more top 15 teams than the Big 10?
And Sabek, I may have mis-stated myself before. I didn't mean our team couldn't focus on you guys (which they sure as hell do, you guys flat-out beat us in a great game this year), I meant that OSU fans like to focus their hatred on Michigan, where we (Michigan fans) have too many people to hate to focus it all on you.

i'm not trying to compare the Big East to the Big 10.
i know Miami plays in a weak conference. That is why they scheduled Florida, FSU, and Tennessee as out of conference games. Strangely thouhg, all 3 of those teams were having bad years this year, and were as tough as I had hoped as a fan of good games.
you cant be serious about lumping the SEC in with the Big East and ACC though
. down here that would get you keeled, hehe.
SEC and the Big 12 are on the same level as the Big 10. Hell the PAC-10 may be up there this year, as much as i hate to say it. USC was damn good.

Eh, no offense intended with lumping the SEC in there, I just lose track of who is who. The way we do it up here, if you're good and in one of our states, you're in the Big 10. If you're not, you're in the MAC.
Down there it's like one good school is in the ACC and a cross-state rival will be in the SEC. Or the Big East. Or whatever. Confusing for us northerners. =) Guess I'll go look it up, as I already had to look up the ACC and Big East today. Though I suppose I could probably figure it out now, through process of elimination...

Sad really. Iowa/USC game is the game I'm interested in. With Miami's crap schedule and OSUs pathetic way they have played teams they do NOT deserve to be playing for a national championship. There is a host of teams with one loss that deserve it moreso. Oklahoma is in that group as well.
Anybody care to debate OSU even being there? Compare the Big Ten schedule with Iowa and OSU. Teams OSU barely squeeked out Iowa, in general dominated. Whens the last time I team went to Michigan and held Michigan to 9 points while scoring 34? At the time I belive Michigan was rated #8. If Michigan hadn't had a stupid mistake the point would be mute anyway. OSU should be feeling DAMN lucky they are where they are.
Prediction...OSU gets their ass handed to them.

This kind of stuff cracks me up.
"Iowa deserves to be there more" Waaaaaah
Guess what, if Iowa had won all their games they might be there.
And here's a shocker. They didn't win all their games. They lost to a 7-6 team. They have no one but themselves to blame for not having a shot at Tempe.
Here are the similar games:
Iowa 42-35 Penn st
Iowa 31-28 Purdue
Iowa 24-8 Indiana
Iowa 34-9 Michigan
Iowa 20-3 Wisconsin
Iowa 45-21 Minnesota
PF 38.9 PA 18.2
OSU 13-7 Penn st
OSU 10-6 Purdue
OSU 45-17 Indiana
OSU 14-9 Michigan
OSU 19-14 Wisconsin
OSU 34-3 Minnesota
PF 29.2 PA 12.2
How is this total domination by Iowa? If you check there is only one team in 13 games to score more than 19 points and that was texas tech the first game of the season. Your offense doesn't need to put up 90 points a game when your defense keeps people out of the endzone.

Originally I would have been inclined to side with Peyoten on that, but now that you post the comparison, it just appears that Iowa has a bit more of a prolific offense, where OSU's strength appears to be on defense. I wish they could have played each other this year, to settle it.
