Upcoming PC Games
PC gaming seems to be at an all-time low at the moment. There's not much out (that I haven't played and beat) that's very impressive if you're not into MMOGs.
I just played 3 demos for games that look promising. A couple of them will be available on the 360 too, but if you get a chance check out:
Just Cause - Eidos
Call of Juarez - Ubisoft
Lego Star Wars 2 - Lucasarts
I'll definitely buy LSW2 and JC when they come out. Still evaluating CoJ, but the demo seems decent.

It's a western game where you play as two different characters with two different playstyles.
One of the characters is a preacher who goes a bit crazy for the lord's vengeance and deals with things in a very loud way.
The other is a kid named 'Billy' who's more of a stealthy character.
I played through the demo tonight and now I'm not so sure about it. Some of the game mechanics are fucking annoying. Riding horses is silly, the AI is questionable at best and some of the gimmicky gun moves are rather annoying.
All of that said, it looks and sounds pretty damn good.

You're right that the PC game market is a bit stale at the momment.
I'm looking forward to the following games:
WoW: Burning Crusade (MMORPG expansion)
Dawn of War: Dark Crusade (RTS expansion)
Warhammer: Mark of Chaos (RTS)
Company of Heros (WW2 RTS)
(eventually) Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars (RTS)
I guess I lean towards games that play to the strengths of PC gaming. For action games, fighters, side scrollers, driving, and sports I'd rather be platform gaming. Oh yeah, I won't even play FPS games on a platform system. PC or nothing.

What's "Just Cause" Noel? Eidos makes pretty good games most of the time, in fact I'm just now playing through Deus Ex 2 for the first time.
Command and Conquer will hopefully be a good RTS, imo they've gotten to be way too twitchy and not based enough on actual strategy.
I agree that the PC market sucks lately, I have a Target store on my sales route and every time I walk by the "New Release" PC game section I'm greeted by some Sims expansion, a Nancy Drew game, Ghost Recon (which I have and its good btw) and other boring titles.
It sucks

Just Cause appears to be a combination of GTA and that Mercenaries title that came out for the PS2. I kind of enjoy the demo but I kind of don't at the same time. There's a lot of cheese that comes with it and in the demo there's time limits on everything which totally destroys strategy. There's also an endless supply of enemies. It makes me think that the devs designed a game that was exactly what I would have liked but in the end they went a step too far (or not far enough) and totally fucked it up. That said I think it's worth a look at least at the demo. Because it's an Eidos title, there's a good chance it will be available on direct2drive.com if you're into that.
BTW, when the game is released they're advertising that it's totally open-ended ala GTA. If that's true then it could be fun. If it's just madcap-zany-run and shoot like the demo I'm not interested.
Seems like the best game about to come out is LSW2.

I played Shogun: Total War when it came out but those fucking Geisha units ruined the entire game for me.
Did they fix that? I vowed to never buy another one of those games because of them.

Seriously man, the Geisha thing was a little stupid, but the TW series overall is easily and without a doubt the most fun I've ever had in gaming, with pre-Luclin a close second.Neziroth wrote:I played Shogun: Total War when it came out but those fucking Geisha units ruined the entire game for me.
