It definately ended with a wimper. Great episode though. Sucks to be that prostitute!
Cy Tolliver stabbing the opium addict was odd. Someone explain that one to me.
As it ended for season three, I'd say Hearst got the better of everyone. We'll have to wait for the final 4 hours of the show next year to have a little more closure to the various plotlines.
I don't know if I'd call the ending a "whimper". They did about as much as they could to make it exciting while still keeping it somewhat historically accurate. You know they couldn't kill Hearst or Swearengen, as they are both real guys with documented deaths. I, for one, was on the edge of my seat for about 20 minutes in that epsode.
God I love that show. I'm sad that it will be ending soon.

That I felt it went out with a "whimper" doesn't mean the episode was bad. I thought it was great. Bullock needs to kill someone. He had several outbursts directed at Hearst, basically calling him out, but Hearst didn't do anything so I guess that counts for something.
I'm curious as to what the final four hours will focus on.
