Plan B to become OTC

WASHINGTON - Women may buy the morning-after pill without a prescription — but only with proof they’re 18 or older, federal health officials decided Thursday. The Food and Drug Administration ruling culminated a contentious three-year effort to ease access to the emergency contraceptive.

Girls 17 and younger still will need a doctor’s note to buy the pills, called Plan B, the FDA told manufacturer Barr Pharmaceuticals Inc.

The compromise decision is a partial victory for women’s advocacy and medical groups which say eliminating sales restrictions could cut in half the nation’s 3 million annual unplanned pregnancies. Opponents have argued that wider access could increase promiscuity.

etc
Sadly, the life-begins-at-conception crowd is still generally up in arms about the matter. Since plan B's primary function is to block conception, there is technically no "life" being aborted. However, they still find other shit to bitch about. For example, a possible and very much unsubstantiable effect of the drug is the prevention of implantation of a fertilized egg. What makes it so unsubstantiable is the fact that a woman's body naturally blocks implantation over 50% of the time, making any reliable measurement of the drug's effectiveness nearly impossible to gauge. This, however, doesn't stop them from bitching about it and mislabeling it as an abortion drug (on top of ther things).

Crispies love to bitch about abortion and having lots of kids but they never seem to be around when those unwanted kids need to be adopted.

Bout time this drug went through but they need to allow any age to buy it and set it right next to the condoms.

Isn't that pill very bad for you if used often? Hopefully people will read the labels and not use it every other day.

Pharmacies are required to carry the drug when it is a prescription only product. By making it OTC, then they don't have to carry the drug at all, so you won't see it carried at walmarts anymore.
