SCI FI Channel confirmed that it will not renew its record-breaking original series Stargate SG-1 for another season, but will pick up its spinoff series Stargate Atlantis for a fourth year. SG-1 aired its 200th episode on Aug. 18, and the SF series is the longest-running SF show on American television.
SCI FI issued the following statement on Aug. 21: "SCI FI Channel is proud to be the network that brought Stargate SG-1 to its record-breaking 10th season. Ten seasons and 215 episodes is an astounding, Guinness World Record-setting accomplishment. Stargate is a worldwide phenomenon. Having achieved so much over the course of the past 10 years, SCI FI believes that the time is right to make this season their last on the channel. SCI FI is honored to have been part of the Stargate legacy for five years, and we look forward to continuing to explore the Stargate universe with our partners at MGM through a new season of Stargate Atlantis."
Stargate SG-1, developed for television by executive producers Brad Wright and Jonathan Glassner, is based on the 1994 feature film Stargate. SG-1, which originally starred Richard Dean Anderson, Michael Shanks, Amanda Tapping and Christopher Judge, began on Showtime, then moved to SCI FI after five seasons. The current cast includes Tapping, Shanks and Judge and newcomers Ben Browder, Claudia Black and Beau Bridges. It airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
Are you referring to the Ori (however they're spelled...) I thought they showed up in early-to-mid Season 9. I haven't watched last weeks episode on DVR yet to see if I missed something though.
Yeah, sucks a lot.. Ben and Claudia worked *really* well on SG-1 too, so it's not like Jack's character left such a hole in the show it couldn't continue.

Ack That 200th episode was hilarious, my chest was hurting from laughing so hard. Ben Browder and Claudia Black must have some kind of curse on them, shows they're both on seem to die! Shame too, they were both working really well on the show.
I am surprised at myself at how saddened I am by this news. I love this series and it though I knew it must end sometime I thought that it was really just starting to get really good with more action and new adventures. I seriously have a sinking feeling in my gut right now. I hope Atlantis will be enough.
I'm a big fan of Atlantis. As much as I love SG-1, I think some of this season's Atlantis episodes were better than SG-1 by far. I agree that Tayla is a terrible character, but I think some of the other characters are so enjoyable that they make up for her. At least she hasn't been getting too much story time this season.
This is sad news though. I really hope Atlantis can keep going well, and get better even.
If it weren't for the Shepard-McKay banter the show would be unwatchable. I guess the best we can hope for is that they'll add a bunch of the SG-1 crew to Atlantis to get some better stories. Enough with the Wraith please.

Wier is a pointless waste of a character too, all she ever does is agree to any proposal put in front of her (other than Sheppard asking if he can shoot McKay)
McKay is just a less likeable Carter.
Teyla is pointless, but I think she's hot..
Ronon is a dreamboat.. I'm told.
Beckett is OK too but in SG-1 he'd never leave the base.
Last couple of seasons have been ok, but the first series made me slip into a coma when I tried to watch them.

SG-1 has really been on a downward slope since they brought Daniel back (JONAS WAS SO MUCH BETTER!) and lost Richard Dean Anderson.
I've watched a few of the current episodes, and they have just lost their magic. Atlantis will never be as good as SG-1 was before Richard Dean left, but it's better than post Richard Dean SG-1.

Atlantis is ok but I just don't like any of the characters. Bear in mind I've only seen seasons 1 & 2. Rodney and Mitch Pilleggi are the only decent ones. Oh and scottish doctor.
Shepard acts about as well as Jeff Sinclair from B5.
Ronin (lol) is a crap klingon without the personality.
She-woman cat-type-thing can F off.
The critique of Weir is spot-on. She should eat some pies as well.
Both SG series could have learned from the Borg debacle in ST:TNG as well. Making your bad guys uber tough and unstoppable is a dead-end plot-wise. You either end up killing off your own cast (ha right) or having to come up with some cheesy neutering/deus-ex-machina solution to de-uberize them. So gay.
I loved the Atlantis Ep in Season 1 where they meet an ancient, Shephard hooks up with her, then when Rodney find out about it he looks all annoyed and goes "Oh my god, he's Kirk".
I think Rodney is hilarious. They need more combat stuff. Or some new allies. I'd like to see them finish off the wraith and move on to a new badguy. Maybe even a Bahl clone.

No Ba'al clones! /shudder.

Which is the real Ba'al?!
Was it this season when they had to track down something like 16 of him? hehe
I just finished the series finale of SG-1. So good. They will be releasing a straight to dvd movie in the second half of the year. Two of them in fact. SG-1: The ark of truth and SG-1 I forget the name.

I'm pretty sure the actual series finale hasn't been finished/aired yet. There are still at least a few episodes set for release later this year. I think they are coming out around the time that Stargate: Atlantis comes back.
New York, NY – February 20, 2007 – The Stargate legacy continues to burn bright on SCI FI. As the countdown to the final ten
episodes of Stargate SG-1 commences, the Channel prepares for the launch of an all-new fourth season of Stargate Atlantis
this fall. SG-1’s Amanda Tapping will travel to the Pegasus galaxy to join the Atlantis cast and reprise her role as television’s
favorite astrophysicist, Lt. Colonel Samantha Carter.
SG-1's last 10 episodes have aired in the UK on the SkyOne network, and have been available through torrents. I've seen the last episode as well, and it was a bit of a sad one! Looking forward to the movies.
[hide]The last episode wasn't exactly what I expected. The producers did some interesting twists that I'm sure will please and rile up the US fans significantly.
The mass suicide of the Asgard got me a bit choked up. The most advanced species of all the Earth's allies, and they all are dying to the degenerative virus?
I wish they would have put a bit more emphasis on the time invested in upgrading the ship with the Asgard legacy and the fact that the Odyessy was not in the Milky Way galaxy. The Ori ships tracking them need to take just as long of a trip to get there as well.
This was also the one episode of the whole series where I wanted to slap to shit out of Daniel for going off on Vala, but I'm glad he and Vala finally hooked up (even though Teal'c will never tell them!). The geek gets the girl!
50 years stuck on that ship? Yeah, I'd go apeshit like Cam.[/hide]

I don't know honestly. Thor did say they recalled all Asgard back to their homeworld for the extinction. They didn't want any of them surviving to carry on the degenerative virus or be captured to steal their secrets.

I saw Atlantis before i saw Season 9 and 10 of SG-1 and I'm certain Hermiod went with the other lilfellas as well. Hermiod on Daedalus must've been long before Unending.
Best SG-1 Episode must be the ending episode of Season 9, Camelot!
When they fought the Ori Motherships! Good show ol chaps!
The final episode of them all, Uneding, was cute too! Gotta love those Asgards!
