Can you make explosives on an airplane with liquid material?

What do you think about the world?

Can you make explosives on an airplane with liquid material?

Post by Hesten »

Quite an interesting read, an article about the feasibility of using liquid to make explosives on a plane.
If this article is right, that whole plan was quite ridiculous.

Seems like there are many more ways to down a plane than the examples given in the press. You don't really need to blow it up, just kill or incapacitate the passengers and crew. I can think of a number of readily available industrial chemicals that fit the scenario very well.

That is true, but all the attention has been on a "bomb". Several military experts have been very doubtful about this.

From what I've heard about the guys they've arrested, they were very amateur and working alone and did not really know what they were doing. It is kind of weird that I can't even bring toothpaste onto a plane anymore and thousands of duty free shops are going to go out of business because they can't sell liquids any longer to travellers because a bunch of wannabes got caught for this unbelievable shit. The government and the media are perfectly happy to let anyone believe that some crazed terrorist is just going to pour what he's got in his after shave bottle into what he's got in his mouth wash bottle and make a bomb capable of splitting a jumbo jet in half at 35,000 feet.

I don't know why society is so fucking eager to live life in such an utter state of panic.

I had been hearing references to a device that might cause decompression in the aircraft, but not necessarilly strong enough (on it's own) of destroying the aircraft.

You can thank the current US government for most of that.

Heh yeah way more effective.. at least it would kill the person opening the exit. Not that opening an emergency exit is that quick and easy...

A decompression in itself is not dangerous really.

It would fuck up hairdos which could cause agitation. Someone's laptop might get sucked out the door as well.

You could make a chemical cocktail pretty easily that will kill people. Not an explosive, but definitely deadly. I think the media just loves to latch onto the term "bomb" because it easliy riles people up.

Bomb is simple and easy for people to comprehend. Going much beyond that would require them to think a little bit and we can't have that.

I bet if you ask Winnow he will confirm that the Zen was built with a decompression brake system to avoid being sucked out of an open airline door. Beat that IPOD!!

you cant mix chemicals to kill someone nearly fast enough for a flight official to depressurize the cabin and blow it all out. there's also oxygen masks.

granted the incident alone would probably ground air travel in the US for five days and get cheney elected president in 2008.

I'm guessing there's a few mostly common liquids in existance that when mixed together either made toxic fumes or something else..

Hell, just get enough soda and some mentos!
