Tropical Storm Chris

Post by Sylvus »

So, I guess this will be aimed at people in the hurricane areas. What's the best site to watch for tracking a storm?

My dad just called me and told me I might have to fly down to florida on Saturday to get the boat into storage, depending on how strong the storm is looking. That really bums me out because it ruins my weekend plans, I hate flying, and I think I'd particularly hate flying down into the midst of a tropical storm/hurricane/whatever.

From what I've read so far the "shear" (whatever that is) is working correctly that it's hindering Chris' ability to grow, I really hope this thing dies. And not just for my own selfish reasons, I'd hate for you floridians to have to put up with another hurricane, though it's bound to happen sometime.

As an aside, is anyone familiar with a service (or the search terms I could use to find a service) that might be able to go to our house and drive our boat to the marina that stores it? That's probably a longshot, but I'm sure it'd be cheaper than my dad and I flying down there...

Heard this morning Chris was weakening, hopefully it will continue to do so.

Have you tried the Marina for someone who can go run the boat over? They may have someone that can do it and might not even charge a fee.

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/

That's the site I use most of the time. Several different views so you can see where the winds should hit as well as where the storm itself might go.

Yeah the NHC's site is the best generally...

I also hit http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/ and http://flhurricane.com/

You needn't worry much about Chris for now...the circulation split from the convection and it dropped damn near back to Tropical Depression...Forecast is for continued weakening and it dropping WNW...

Thanks for everyone's input. It looks (as of right now) that it's not going to be an issue. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed though.
