very un original plot, very, very little if any character developement...and a script with absolutly nothing new or exciting to offer besides the same undercover cop plotline played out one hundred times over
colin ferrel did have a good haircut though! made me miss mine when the bastards cut off 4 inches instead of 1/2!!

Yeah really, who would EVER be tempted to see a movie directed by the guy who made Manhunter, Last of the Mohicans, Heat, The Insider, and Collateral...
Not knocking anyone for seeing it, just wondering why anyone would want to make a movie out of a cheesy (however popular) 80s TV show. Figure any iconic pop thing would have faded years ago.

Is there a possible difference between any of those movies and this movie? Could that difference possibly be perceived through the previews?
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.
Of course there are differences between the movies, but from a solid director like Mann I would expect even one of his weakest films to be atleast moderately enjoyable. He is the master of dark, atmospheric crime dramas. This was another cop/crime drama which certainly had potential- and no I didn't think the previews looked bad, but they also didn't impress. Seemed like a completely reasonable movie to check out in theatres. /shrug
I honestly didn't pay much attention to the director. I saw the preview, saw that it was another remake, saw that it had Collin Farrel and promptly forgot about it.

colin farrel is a wretched excuse for a man. I tend to avoid shit he is in too.
miami vice is dated now, but it really was one of the best cop shows ever. a remake with the original creator of the show directing who also happens to be a fucking awesome director had me interested until I found out farrel is going to be wrecking it. they should have gotten someone like eric bana to do it. I guess there aren't many actors that can emulate don johnson's look in that show and pull it off, and even though farrel can, he's also a fucking jackass and a shitty actor.
I've really enjoyed most of Mann's films, so I checked it out last night as well. I'd say Xzion pretty much hit the mark.... bland is a good one-word description. The shoot out / gun fight scenes are pretty much all this movie has going for it, which are up to par with typical Michael Mann shoot outs. Can't say the same about the rest of it. I'd consider it rental-worthy.
