Civilization 4: Warlords

Post by Dregor Thule »

The expansion comes out tomorrow. I've been eagerly keeping up with the news on it and am excited to experience it finally. New leaders/civs are always nice, and some more robust scenarios compared to the vanilla game should be good, but mostly I'm looking forward to the 3 new traits and unique buildings. Great Generals should also be fun. And then there's the new art assets to differentiate somewhat between different civs.

Yeah. I've been playing a bunch of Civ4 in anticipation. Just one more turn!

I've had a chance to play with it some now, and overall I'd say it's a good one. I haven't played any of the expansions yet, just the core game, and the addition of unique buildings and great generals are fun changes to the system. The vassal states system is different... not sure how much I like it yet. You have to be careful who you take under your wing as a vassal since the AI doesn't seem to good at taking it into consideration. I accepted Spain's capitulation to me in one game and eventually had to go to war with Carthage, my closest ally, when he declared war on Spain.

The new civs and leaders are of course nice, they add more variety, and I was getting pretty tired of seeing the same old leaders every game. The 3 new traits are also fun, adding a bit more depth to strategies... gotta be careful of Imperialistic, it makes it even easier to over-extend your empire and run yourself into an economic black hole early in the game.

If you enjoyed Civ4 I'd say pick it up. It's a solid addition to the game and doesn't leave a bad taste like Play the World did for Civ3.

That's a pretty good review of the expansion, click the links at the top of the article to go to the different sections of it.

Does the game come with a tech tree poster? I bought the LE version of the first game and got a fucking FRENCH tech tree. And havent seen anything to that tech tree they offered to send out as replacement (i applied before they changed it to US only), and neither have the US guy that applied for one for me.

Just came with the standard game manual, cd, and registration card for me. No posters or anything else with mine.

Tech tree posters are fairly useless. Information is bound to change in patches, and in all honesty the ingame one is less of a hassle to use than unfolding that thing and handling it :)

Hehe, i still like my tech tree poster :) Or rather, i would like it if i could understand it. Still pissed that i ended up paying almost 100$ for this game since i wanted the LE and had to import it and THEN got a french tech tree.
