Dragonlance Movie

Post by Sylvus »

I hadn't heard anything about it, apparently still in pre-production, but slashdot reported that the voice actors have been cast for the animated Dragons of Autumn Twilight.
Pre-production on the animated Dragonlance film is continuing apace, and the voice casting for the Companions has been completed. Kiefer Sutherland will be headlining as the voice of Raistlin Majere. Other case members will include Michael Rosenbaum (Justice League's Flash) as Tanis Half-Elven, Lucy Lawless as Goldmoon, Michelle Trachtenberg at Tika Waylan, and Jason Marsden as Tasslehoff Burrfoot. From the site: "The film is based on the first book in the Chronicles series, "Dragons of Autumn Twilight". The director is comics and TV animation veteran, Will Meugniot, and the screenplay has been adapted by George Strayton with plenty of involvement from Margaret and Tracy."

I'm glad to see it's animated. I'm tired of seeing people try to translate to live action with cgi and doing shitty ass jobs of it.

Then again, I'm not a snob who thinks animated films aren't real films.

I hear you when you say snobs who think animated films aren't real films. On the other hand, I don't think Dragonlance books are real books ;) At least they got Jack Bauer to do the voice of Raistlin

Hrm... if they could use the animators from that last dragon movie (Fire sumtin).... It might make a kickass live action flick...

Its such easy reading that it would be just the type of story moviegoers would eat up...

Also one of the books that got me into reading... think I read it right after legend of Huma.

DragonLance books were the first fantasy novels I got into (even before I read Tolkien). I'm glad to see this will be animated. I loved the LOTR film trilogy but their's only so much liveaction fantasy I can take before I get bored of the CG, wide sweeping shots of a multitude of terrains, and goofy elf physics (I'm looking at you Legolas).

As far as the cast it could be hit or miss. I remember Sutherland doing the voice for one of the main characters in Armitage III but I can't remember if it was good or not. I guess as long as the authors are heavily involved this could turn out pretty good.
Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong:
THIS is the way the world ends.

Ah man, I loved the first 9 or so books of that series. Weiss/Hickman are excellent writers for a younger audience. I look forward to this if it makes it to production.

On second thought though, given a choice, I would have rather had a animated series for 'Death Gate Cycle'. :D
