"The Best Offers"

Post by Funkmasterr »

I am trying to get rid of this on my girlfriends laptop and im not having as much luck as I hoped for.

Everything that I have been able to find by looking online is outdated, and the programs and tools that you use to get rid of it have drastically changed since the resolutions were posted.

I have ran avg free edition and gotten rid of everything that it found, whether avg could get it or I had to do it manually. I have also run adaware, and spybot both fully updated and got rid of everything that they found.

Lastly, I ran Hijack this, and got rid of everything that did not belong that it found.

I really want to get rid of this fucking virus as it destroys this goddamn computer, so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The one thing I will say though, is I WILL NOT do an Fdisk. Reinstalling is not an option, I know there has to be a way to get rid of this.

Thanks in advance !

I've found that Windows Defender is pretty good at detecting and blocking stuff out since it uses a realtime blocking engine and stops shit when it tries to install as opposed to detecting it after the damage is done.

Only other recommendation I can make is run Windows Update and get all the updates that are available. An un-updated IE usually lets this type of stuff in without too make questions.

Firefox may be a good alternative too if she doesn't mind using it.

Seconded on Windows Defender. Many people may harbor a severe dislike for M$, but their anti-spyware program can get rid of shit a lot easier than other tools.

Just be warned that Microsoft downgraded the danger of a few companies they cooperate with. That alone turned me off on their stuff by pure principle.

Microsoft lets spyware and adware companies BUY legitimacy and no longer be found by their app, Kelshara already stated this, but I wanted to specify that for 10k you can license your bullshit with M$.

Spybot, and AdAware ( the lavasoftusa.com one) especially when ran from safe mode will elimate 99% of the shit on youir system, then run Hijackthis and post a log here and I will happily check it out line by line for any crap left.

I'd posted about this, ironically enough, 1 year and 1 day ago.

I haven't heard about MS offering to de-list spyware for a fee but I wouldn't be surprised one way or another.

I don't use anything. Works well if you don't go to pr0n sites!

Every couple months I'll run free ccleaner or something but I just don't see how you people still get this crap on your computers. Download windows updates and be happy.

Maxthon (best IE shell out there..better than Firefox and no memory leaks like Avent) has ad blocking and popup blocking and whatever else you want with the tabs and mouse gestures, etc.)

Easy way to avoid crap on your computer:

-show your girlfriend how to doanload pr0n off the newsgroups instead of hitting all those spyware sites
-stay away from lyrics sites
when googling, or anything else, look at a URL before you click on it. It's pretty easy to tell if it's a spam site just by looking at the URL before clicking it.

On the rare occasion I sweep my computer, I use PestPatrol or Spyware Dr.

Most have online scanning to at least tell you what they detect, even if they won't remove it before you pay:

Thanks a lot everyone for all the advice!

I was drunk and messing around with it again last night and I got rid of it. I ended up getting rid of it by running ad aware and spybot in safe mode, rebooting and running Ewido.

There is a lot of good information in the thread for problems down the road though!

Thanks again

Yeah, most of those and other links are in the sticky in this forum regarding keeping your computer clean. I alternate what I run, but I keep them all updated.
