Current "Hard" Rock/Metal?

Post by Sylvus »

Give me some suggestions on music from the last 5 years or so that is "heavy" or "aggressive" or whatever you want to call it. Anything to get the blood flowing and the adrenaline rising. A lot of my tastes are older albums, so I'm interested in being exposed to newer stuff.

I'm not a huge fan of the bands whose vocals are all screaming. For instance, Lamb of God sounded like they could have been good but I couldn't get past their singer. I did enjoy In Flames though, and they're pretty screamy.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks! (others feel free to keep requests coming)

I'm familiar with (and like) Taproot (they're from my hometown), Flaw and (some) Mudvayne. I have heard good things about Avenged Sevenfold. I'll check some of the others out.

Parentheses are good.

Dragonforce.

..just Dragonforce.

Ok, Kamelot is fast and aggressive as well. I'll reiterate Children of Bodom, they're awesome.

Going to have to second Isis. I've only listened to Oceanic and Panopticon but I really enjoyed Panopticon. However, it's a 'slower' metal, and very instrumental album. I wouldn't call it agressive, but since Isis was mentioned I figured I'd throw a few words out.

Get yourself a Sirius radio.... if you like Metal, listen to Hard Attack

Kicks Much Ass.

Just heard a band called Lordi... got me going, they have a real good sound and pretty clear vocals.

That was Dragonforce.

You can subside on Dragonforce alone; it is all one needs!

Before I realized it was a joke, I found a couple of their albums on the newsgroups and gave them a listen. I was like "WTF?! Was this a serious recommendation??"

The funny thing is that Herman Li (the guy on the left in that Dragonforce video) could shred the face off a trex with his guitar. The music is just hilariously nuts though.
