If the game ends 1-0 Japan, yes, the Japanese keeper would be the hero. I think Dida fell asleep there and allowed the Japanese players to really believe they could beat Brazil today if they had any doubts.

*edit*oops, I guess the 1-0 won't happen. Nice header just before I came back to work from my lunch break.

disappointing cup for a number of reasons for the US team.

All said though, their group was excellent. When a team like the Czech Republic goes home as well, i think you know the caliber of the group.

The US i think played as well as Ghana, and slightly better at times, but they still didnt play in such a fashion that they truly deserved a win (unlike the match v. Italy).

Much of the adversity the US faced was of their own creation (poor goals allowed, lousy finishing), but they had some external adversity which combined with the slight underachievement proved too much to overcome.

that's life....

now i take the the position that many fans do every four years after some period of mourning and the elimination of one's team...and that is to become a Brazil fan!

It's hard no to - they're a very entertaining team to watch.

Watching their fans is better.

Brazil always have hot blonde women as fans, can't complain about that.

USA didn't do enough to qualify in the end, they still lack the talent, although if you look at England, you could say the same, but they qualified...bit fucked up really.

Any idea why Arena didn't use Johnson more? He seemed to always create stuff when he was playing. Dangerous player imo.

The goal can be discussed, it was borderline and then it should benefit the attacker. Watched it multiple times, I still think it was barely offside. Was a very nice goal though.

The US needs to score more, that is the bottom line. You ain't winning if you ain't scoring.

Brazil seemed to wake up today and that could mean trouble for the remaining teams. But Spain, Portugal and Argentine have also played well, Germany seems to play better than expected and England woke up slightly last game. Sweden is an outside but I think they'll lose to Germany.

as i predicted, Ghana will go far, i would not be the least bit surprised if they manage to take out brazil, hell im almost counting on it

but lol, next round games are funny, spain actually has it better if they LOOSE to saudi arabia so they dont have to deal with brazil or ghana in the round of 8, where as 2nd place only has to deal with australia or italy...and im not at all scared of either france switzerland or korea for that round

Would have been a travesty if France had not moved on after being ripped off 100% by the refs in game 1 and 2 (the penalty in game 1, the no-call on the score in game 2). They actually played well today as well.

I am loving the German attack. It looks like they are pulling the Swedes away from their comfort zone and punching it at the goal.

wtf is going on in the Holland / Portugal game?!?! Sheesh, 15 yellows so far, benches cleared at least once...record is 16 cards, and with the way this game is going, that should be shattered.

Isn't contact initiated by a defender generally a requirement before penalty kick is awarded?

Fabio Grosso is the one who "cried" foul.
Francesco Totti made the penalty kick.

Whenever dives are brought up, I have always thought Italy.

Italians are masters of the dive. The penalty was argued as "strict but defendable" here. The top Norwegian referee was actually in the studio and said that the call could have gone either way.

Ghana played way better than Brazil for the most part. Brazil had better finishes (and they can thank their 195 cm goaltender for some GREAT saves as well). Not to mention the second Brazil goal was offside.

The team that plays the best does not always win. Such is sport.

Ronaldo vs Zidane! The routine of France beat the young talent of Spain in the chess match it ended up being. I am impressed by France, they deserved the win and it was a fun match to watch. Brazil vs France could be FUN!

Oh and Midnyte the elbow to the chest was a freekick and a yellow card. They have given those in every game for interference.

I agree about the face holding, I am talking about the free kick itself. If it was an elbow to the face it should have been a red card. As it is, a free kick and yellow was correct with what has been done earlier in the Cup.

It actually surprised me a bit, Henry is not usually one to flop around.

yes it was, they gave puyol a yellow card FOR BEING TRIPPED, refs have ruined this fucking world cup, that 2nd france goal was on a 100% bullshit call.
fifa needs to add an instant replay ref who can overturn the initial calls, refs ruin WAY to many soccer games, it really is a serious problem

I love soccer. I've watched just about every game of this World Cup, but I would like to see a change in the acting hurt shit. I think it is awful and really takes away from the game for me. Falling down and acting hurt every time you get touched is fucking Jay Mariotti gay. It's totally unnecessary and is equivalent to the fighting in Hockey. I enjoy the sport, I don't need the theatrics.
