If I were Rockstar, I'd push the PS3 GTA4 release from October 2k7 to Jan 2k8. That would really twist Sony's nipples.
The whole article was an investor re-assurance peice to try and do some damage control on the less than stellar E3 showing.
However going on record and lessening the importance of the GTA series to the PS2 is a slap in the face to the folks at Rockstar.
This is retarded. The numbers of sales for last generation consoles was already hashed out did you miss that thread somehow? I am sure Miir can supply us with a link. There is no slight here, just the fucking truth. Are you really trying to imply that GTA was responsible for the dominance of the ps2?

Hehe yeah, no shit.
By the same token, I doubt MS would openly admit that the only reason the Xbox sold any units at all was because of Halo.
Keep in mind that a huge fucking percentage of the PS2s sales were in Asia. GTA was more of a North American phenomenon. That;'s not saying it wasn't popular in Japan but you can bet your ass that those squenix games had a helluva lot more to do with the overall success of the PS2 than GTA.

What I'm implying that that GTA helped the PS2's cause quite a bit.
Dismissing one of your third party developers (especially one that cranked out multiple hits for you) seems highly unprofessional to me.

That's a dis?

Look at the PS2s sales.
Compare them to Xbox sales.
Subtract the number of PS2 exclusive Rockstar games sold from the total number of PS2s sold.
Compare that number to the total number of Xboxes sold.
I think it's safe to say that the PS2 still would have kicked Xbox ass without Rockstar exclusives.

It's going to take Sony a year until 2008 to have the same abount of units that the 360 will already have while Microsoft continues to pump out more.
Expensive console, less exclusivity in franchises and RPGs, still no FPS presence, Wii/360 combo, fucking arrogance in general of Sony, and non stop negative press while the 360 and Wii are receiving positive press, all three major makers of consoles admitting that Japan isn't as important as it used to be with Europe being the battleground, a history of problems with Sony consoles released and this new tech should be even worse for issues, Sony late to the game with boring games that aren't going to excite anyone anymore than the 360's and less so than the Wii's, difficulty to program the Cell processor reducing the number of games while PC/360 are easily ported, a drop in the 360's price during the holiday season when the mega expensive PS3 comes out, several anticipated 360 games also coming out at the same time, etc etc etc.
Sony fanbois will rejoice when the PS3 sells out for the first several months...whoopty-fucking-do. I'll be trying to get one of the new mpeg4 HD-DVR recorders from DirecTV this fall and bet I have a harder time getting that than a PS3.
Of course, there will be more than six games out for the PS3 as well, unlike the "5 shooter + Oblivion" lineup the 360 has for the forseable future.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .
Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.

That arguments holds a lot of weight with games like Chromehounds, 99 Nights, LOTR:Battle for Middle Earth II, Dead Rising, Blue Dragon(in Japan at least) and Enchanted Arms coming this summer and stuff like Rockstar Table Tennis that was just released.

It is yet to be seen what will be available for PS3's launch, especially with the difficulty in programming the Cell. Promises and then delays come easy in this business.
The 360 still has several quality games slated to be released before the first PS3 is sold.
Right now, the PS3 has zero games that are guaranteed to be released at launch. It's a wait and see... 360 has some Japanese oriented games that will be out by then: Enchanted Arms, Lost Odyssey, and Blue Dragon to name three.
The PS3 could have zero games at launch and still have a wider selection of playable games than the 360 (not the Wii tho) because of MS's half assed retro play mechanism. I want to know why the fuck titles like Barbie Horse Adventures got retro coding time while things like Halo have "May freeze randombly during multiplay" and Xmen Legends games don't fucking work at all. If those games end up being good like Psychonaughts, Jade Empire, or Ninja Gaiden, and not overhyped shit like Fable, Kameo, or Mech Assault 2, then they will be on the right track.
In any case, simultaneous release won't mean shit for those of us who own all consoles. I bought almost all the GTAs on both platforms anyhow, since the video was better on the Xbox over the PS2, especially in widescreen. In fact, in general I always bought things on the Xbox over the PS2 versions so I would actually be _playing_ something in the fucking Xbox. As it stands, the last time I fired up the Xbox1 was to beat Jade Empire (the one truely great exclusive Xbox RPG) and the 360 has not even been turned on since the last time my wife or I touched oblivion.
There is only one exclusive liscense that will give the 360 an edge and that would be to get Square in their corner, like Sony did when Nintendo gave them the brush off. If MS would have been thinking, they would have made damn sure that EA could not get exclusive NFL rights, too, since their ESP game is WAY WAY better than even the 360 version of Madden, but that ship has sailed, unfortunately.

I'll tell you why. Because crappy games like the Barbie game didn't take full advantage of the nVidia graphics chip so emulating them on the new ATi graphics solution is easier than emulating games like Halo which used every trick in the book to get the most out of the Xbox's graphics. Writing emulator code for the high quality games is much harder than the cheesy games.

Interesting perspective. I would tongue Sony's collective asshole and beg them to make another console that will have such a massive installed base, so my future games will be able to sell seven million copies each again. A game can only sell as many units as there are machines in people's homes. It is up to the company manufacturing the machines to market it to the right people and gather the right developers to liscense the hardware to.
But then again if I was running Rockstar I would be looking to maximize my profits instead of my ego, and not acting like a drooling Xbox/Nintendo fantard.
I'll leave the Shinto-istic vendettas and honor duels to Japanese software companies.

Any predictions about the PS3 install base is conjecture at this point. Sure they'll do real well in the first 6 months but once that rush drops off, I believe there will be one hell of a lull in the 599$ console market.
I'd hardly call myself a fanboy of any system. I bought a 360 for the extender functionality primarily since I built my PC into a media center.
Lastly, nice imagery with the ass tonguing orgy but I think the bukkake is the preferred art over there.
