Apparently, I'm now a liberal.

Post by masteen »

I was arguing politics on another board, mostly about how the Neocons are using the gay marriage thing to smokescreen the scathing reports from the 9/11 commission (they gave the steps to increase security an "F"), and I'm getting called a liberal. For not caring if fags and dykes can get married.

Damn you, George Bush.

Please. Gays are ok. The republicans need the fundie vote. Is it that difficult to understand? The media seems to be all over it and totally understands it's just a ploy during an election year.

The Democrats aren't going anywhere unless they capture the retard vote (most of the southeast).

Hint: When the gay population is important enough to swing an election, the republicans will be fucking each other in the ass in their camaign ads.

As part of the White House's drive to impress the religious right with talk about the Federal Marriage Amendment, Press Secretary Tony Snow sat down with Focus on the Family's James Dobson for an interview yesterday, which was aired today. Snow insisted that the president is not a Johnny-come-lately to the issue.
During that interview, however, Dobson pointedly asked Snow about tough allegations being raised in some conservative circles that the president had announced his support for MPA only for political reasons.

"This is an issue on which George W. Bush has been very clear over the years -- and he's spoken repeatedly about it," Snow told Dobson.
That's about half-true. Searching through White House transcripts, I found that in 2004, Bush mentioned his support for a constitutional amendment "defining and protecting marriage as a union of a man and a woman" in public speeches over 100 times. In 2005? Zero. In 2006, before this past weekend's radio address? Zero.

In other words, Bush has spoken about the amendment "repeatedly" -- but only when he needed to use his base to get a second term.
Source
This is something being done just to appease the fundies. Are they stupid enough to fall for it again?

The cloest to the Republican Party, the party of Lincoln, is the Libertarian Party.

No modern Republican removal of civil rights, no democrat welfare bloat, no HUGE wasteful buggets like the Dems and Reps. no for the children Dem and Rep BS.

Once Again, Bush and Republicans Deploy Gay Marriage as November Wedge Issue - The proposed amendment is clearly a case of election-year politics. Republican leaders are hoping the same-sex marriage ban, which has great appeal with the far right, will translate into success in November.

You're halfway there. It's not just one party, fool. It's all of them. Stop putting your faith in these people. Many of these boards are logical enough not to put their faith in Gods hanging out in the clouds watching what we do, why then put your faith in the very people who created these fables?

I'm not really sure why this is any surprise. It's not as if it hasn't been going on for as long as there has been humanity with anyone w/ any power regardless of affiliation.

The real problem in America is the that populace is generally apathetic. No one cares. You need to scare or anger people into caring. You have a much harder time getting someone to vote for you because everything is going well. You have to show something that isn't or appears to not be and thrust that voice as to why it should anger or scare you. It is total mob manipulation and most people are too stupid to pick up on it. You want votes, you scare or anger people. Content people don't voice opinions to any great degree.

Same-sex marriage is a total non-issue being made into an issue because people who don't like or are just plain uncomfortable about the idea are being scared or angered into thinking it actually effects them personally.

Heheheh... I'd like to see these guys get in just so I could laugh at how hard they back-pedal on their core values when faced with reality. They'd need an Irish 10-speed.

If they did, it would not be different than any administration in the history of the US. But they may not, it is a lock that the Dems and Reps will.

Dear VV,

I was swapping out the mobo in my friend's computer, and I cut myself on the drive cage. Does this make me emo?

Only if you either cut yourself on purpose, or if you let it bleed as you sat and stared at it.
