Not really, but an interesting development.
"There is at least as much need to curb the cruel greed and arrogance of part of the world of capital, to curb the cruel greed and violence of part of the world of labor, as to check a cruel and unhealthy militarism in international relationships." -Theodore Roosevelt

That event was clearly done by incredibly desperate people fearing for their lives, it's odd England would allow them to stay given how insane their actions were, but it's actually pretty cool tbh.

It's interesting historically how England has always been one of the worse offenders in terms of ethnicity and tolerance. Their empire was not known for its patience and generousity to the satellite nations, and a lot of those mindsets still exist today. While integration on the Isles is much better (minorities make up a large portion of their society), there is a sheen of racism that exists in many of the rural areas without much contact. Granted, this was only from my year of being there, so maybe I didn't see the whole picture, but having studied their history and common laws, England hasn't really been a defender of virtue and truth for other ethnic groups.
With that said....hijackers? Good lord, I hadn't even heard about this case. A step in the right direction for human rights, but still, it's a rather dangerous precedent to set. I highly doubt we'll see hijacked planes come into England on an every day basis now, but is that the message you want to send to people, that you can wreak havoc on passengers, the pilot, and an airline and we'll still let you come over?

I see your point Kalduar but the specifics of this case are what's actually important.

They were fleeing Afghanistan because they would have been killed by the Taliban if they were forced back. We are talking about pro democracy peace loving Afghani intellectuals desperate to save their own lives. Not murderous religious zealots out to make a point.

This is why they have been allowed to stay. I think the message of "whether or not the UK is now inviting" that sort of thing is a bit irrelevant, given that it's up to it's neck in the Iraq war, blindly supports the US in nearly everything it does and is thus inviting terrorist attacks in a whole lot more direct way than this particular case.

I'm glad to see these guys allowed to stay, it's a victory for justice over the wishes of this retarded government and frankly, if my life was in danger from the Taliban, I'd make fucking sure I did anything and everything to get out alive.

None of you would do anything different, unless you were a fucking pussy.

A hypothetical scenario in a sci-fi novel toyed with idea of how England might have approached colonialism differently had the Roman empire not abandoned control. It suggested that they would have tried to assimilate the American Indians (as the Romans used to do with those they conquered) rather than simply wipe them out.
