Colbert At the Correspondants Dinner
As a note, anyone doing what Colbert did in 30's Germany would have been declared a jew-lover ( yeah I know the irony) and executed, instead in the US he gets great press and raises ratings on his show.

Debate a personal attack? You are kidding right? Besides... no one debates here. In general people just state their opinion, then in general insult anyone who doesn't agree with them.kyoukan wrote:even kylere managed to regurgitate a better response than you two assclowns. why is it you worthless fucks always bellyache about my personal attacks when neither of you have ever once tried anything remotely resembling a rational debate?

Colbert, although tamely compared to actual renegades and legends like Bill Hicks, owned Bush and managed to highlight the shit headed job the media has done over the last 6 years - in a short 20 minute skit.
As for not questioning your government and being "respectful", well, that's the opinion of the fucking moronic sheep of this world. Expect nothing but reasonable insults when you spew hysterically pathetic posts like that.

The White House Correspondent's Association Dinner is suppose to be a time where satire can take place.
A personal attack is not when Colbert makes a joke, whether you have a sense of humor or not, in his own perspective about certain things of our country. He did not limit himself to make fun of just the president as well, which some people believe is why major networks did not report anything about Colbert's address until a few days after the event.

No, it's what you call a debate... but all it is is trading veiled/overt insults for the most part... at least what you and Nick post.kyoukan wrote:Debates in here occur all the time. I scoured the internet and posted stuff about this years ago. She had ownership interest in .....
Oh yeah, that's right.....Halliburton. Corrupt now.....corrupt then. Power = corruption. Anywho, it was in their financial best interests to have a war drag on, just as many of the same people in power today have secretly pocketed mucho cash from this "War on Terror".During the Vietnam war there was a consortium of contractors carrying out many of the same functions as Halliburton (KBR) is doing today. Its acronym was RMK-BRJ. It stood for Raymond, Morrison Knudson – Brown and Root and Jones. Instead of being in bed with a Vice-President (Cheney), Brown and Roots ownership was in the hands of a First Lady, (Lady Bird Johnson). Although years have gone by, the names transposed, the fact remains that corruption by any other name is a crime against the citizens of this country and justice will never be seen while our Politics are controlled by a Military-Industrial complex supported by all three branches of our government.
I have to agree with Tanc here, that assertion is just insane.vn_Tanc wrote:Holy fucking what?Vietnam has been gone over a million times. The assholes in power didn't fight the war to win. They fought it to last and make money. Vietnam could have been a sucessful war, if they fought it properly

It's crazy assert that the US Government would extend a war to profit? So you're saying the US Government is making money from the Iraq war? Or made money off the Vietnam war?Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:It's crazy assert that the US Government would extend a war to profit? LOL
I think you need to reevaluate your logic. Or whatever you use that you try to pass off as logic.
I wont deny that some corporations with political ties make a hefty profit from war but the government itself is spending billions of dollars.
Anyway, perhaps you would like to share your view on what the proper way for fighting the Vietnam War successfully was. I'm sure we'd all like to hear your take on that.

I would say that Members of the Government made and are making a lot of money off the war. While I would like to think that they would not make moves to prolong the war to line their pockets, I am sure they are hoping the money keeps flowing in.
Viet-Nam has never lost a war. They beat the Mongols, Chinese, and the Americans.

The peopel in power within the US Government, not the government itself. The government has taxes for that. I'm talking about the actual individuals in power who run the government making phat cash.Aslanna wrote:So you're saying the US Government is making money from the Iraq war? That's why they never officially declared War. America wins Wars. We don't show our palm when we salute.
This page here gives an excellent timeline of events: http://www.landscaper.net/timelin.htm
Sure doesn't look like anyone cared about winning to me... what a fucking joke.

Umm yeah. I've stated years ago that this is prolly what they are doing. I also stated it earlier in this post, that the people in power are profitting from this war. Why do you think they have done it? Since you are incapable of seeing the full picture, you prolly think one sole reason is to blame for everything that goes bad in your little life. Did they go for oil ya think? That's going well huh? $3.20 a gallon? There goes that lil theory. What else you got?Xyun wrote:OMFG they extended the vietnam war to make corrupt politicians rich but that's not what they're doing in Iraq. it's so different. you don't understand you moron. I personally don't care what reason they feed the masses. A scumbag dicatator is gone and an entire country has a chance to really make something of themselves. Will they seize this new opportunity...../shrug....so far they've done an amazing job in such a small amount of time. I hope they continue to feed off the positive things they have done and become a productive positive force in the middle east over the next 100 years.
Mid, you are *so* "the masses". You spent far to long defending every bullshit straw man they propped up as an excuse for Iraq and now you're just burnt-out and can't remember why you were for it in the first place.Midnyte_Ragebringer wrote:Umm yeah. Besides, you flip-flop around so much you make Kerry look like Stonewall Jackson. So far you've gone from "They have WMD", to "Okay, they don't have WMD, but the government knows more than you, they must have a good reason", to "Big Business are extending this war to make cash, and you're all too naieve to see the big picture (tm, pat. pending)". Oh and of course, it's still somehow righteous because ummm, a form of government you don't approve of was over thrown and a laughable immitation of democracy was put in it's place.

Feel free to show me your list of auld and ancient posts where you had the same opinion as this. Yes, I do recall you crapping on about all governments being corrupt and we shouldn't be bothered by it a month or so ago, but prior to that you were a complete flag waving sycophant.
Are you just a drunk that can't remember what you did last year? Perhaps you self medicate with roofies?

I hate to say this because it is a derail and silly.
But have no doubts that a WW2 style effort on the part of the US could have reduced Vietnam is component materials without nukes. Following the Tet Offensive the NVA was dramatically understrength, and with a actual commitment to winning it would not have been that hard.
This could be an entire thread of it's own, but if Vietnam had been a military conflict rather than a political abuse of the military, the US would have won.
To 5 worst Military presidents since 50? Easy, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Bush II and Clinton. In order? worst to 5th worse heh BushII, Johnson, Clinton, Kennedy, Nixon.
