Simpsons Movie July 27, 2007.
I love the Simpsons but now they're just milking a dry nipple. My guess is it will be horrible.

I really don't see what they can do in a movie that will somehow make people go out of their way to see it. In short, Simpson's did it. They have 19 seasons or some shit under their belt, with their prime seasons ending right around 9 or 10 IMO. Within the past 2-3 years I watch them once in awhile, but have never gone out of my way. I own Seasons 1-7 on DVD but really have no intentions of getting every single season since the good to suck ratio gets totally out of whack the further along you go.
The first 5 years of Simpsons were subtle, with topical humor and even had a "meaning" behind each episode. Those have been replaced with over-the-top humor, special guest voices, and simply lame plots with no real moral or value. It's like their gunning for sound bytes. If I want that type of humor, I'll watch Family Guy, which does it so much better. The Simpsons should stick with their roots.
The greatest thing about the Simpson's has got to be their Holloween episodes. Those have been consistantly great fun to watch, no matter what. I guess I do go out of my way to catch those every year

I have to agree with the rest of the ex-simpson fans. I watched it religiously for years, every night if possible, and it was great. Even the reruns were good.
Now the simpsons is a wad of crap. I heard that the creator has since admitted that the last 3 seasons are full of shit and he plans to get back to the basics of what made the simpsons great with this new season.
Anyway, every once in a while there might be a good new episode... but it isn't often enough. This movie is just an attempt at milking the cash out of simpson fans before Fox cancells the series.

It will suck, but will it suck more than the Family Guy movie?

The Simpsons is a great show. This season has been one of the best in the past 4 years or so. I love the fact that I've been enjoying new episodes for over half of my life, and I can remember enjoying the series before I was even old enough to drive. That's a weird feeling.
I'm really looking forward to the movie.
I'd like to know how King of the Hill is still on. That's been running for like 10 years or more I think.

It was stupid? And not in a good way either. There was enough funny stuff in there to fill 1/3 of the time they spent. The rest should have been cut.Dregor Thule wrote:Wtf was wrong with the Family Guy movie?
Parts f the TV show are funny but there aren't enough funny bits to make it worth watching.
Futurama on the other hand is great.

It was stupid.. sort of .. yes. The main problem is that it was just an extended episode. They could have easily put the entire thing (minus a bunch of worthless non-story releated jokes) in a regular 22 minute show.Aabidano wrote:It was stupid? And not in a good way either. A movie should have a story that significantly changes things - Stewie just met his future self, and everything went back to the way it was. No thanks!

The X-Files was at its strongest on Friday nightsSylvus wrote:Shrug, I'm (almost) as big a nerd as the rest of you and I watched the premiere of Firefly and it didn't really grab me that well. I may have watched one more episode after the first, but definitely no more than that. It didn't help that it was on on Friday nights, and I've never been much of a Friday-night tv person. Actually, if you think about what's historically done well on Friday nights (read: TGIF), the people who are watching the most TV then are not really Firefly's key demographic. I'll bet that helped its demise.

Oh, I'm not an X-Files nerd, that's too far into the heirarchy for me. Point taken though, I suppose the nerds don't have much to do on Friday night. Oooh, BURN!!
At any rate, I was thinking of how that Urkel show was on TV for many years, I wasn't aware that X-Files was on Fridays as well. Confound you!

Re: Simpsons Movie July 27, 2007.
Carrying on, I saw this last night and I have to say I found it to be excellent. I expected it to be funny and if anything it was better than I'd hoped for. I'm not of the opinion, as is so incredibly post modern hip these days, that the Simpsons is no longer funny. In fact, I think people who think that are idiots, but thats beside the point.
It was just like a long episode of the show, as you would expect, but substantially funnier, wittier and more visually impressive than any shows thus far.
The only thing I found a bit odd was their choice of Maggie's first word. But I didn't really care that much, although the girlfriend was (for some reason) particularly miffed at this.
Anyone else seen it/enjoyed it/loathed it?

I loved it. I would compare it to episodes found in season 8-10.
Re: Simpsons Movie July 27, 2007.
Could have used a lot more Burns and Moe, but I loved it.

The reviews have been favorable overall. I'll buy the DVD. Btw, season 10 comes out on Tuesday as well if anyone cares.
