SAN FRANCISCO, California (Reuters) -- A new computer worm targeting Apple Computer Inc.'s Macintosh computers has been identified for the second time in one week, security experts said.
The new worm, called OSX.Inqtana.A, spreads through a vulnerability in Apple's OS X operating system via Bluetooth wireless connections, antivirus company Symantec said.
"We have speculated that attackers would turn their attention to other platforms, and two back-to-back examples of malicious code targeting Macintosh OS X ... illustrate this emerging trend," said Vincent Weafer, senior director at Symantec Security Response.
The latest virus follows OSX/Leap-A, which was identified last week and believed to be the first such virus targeting the Mac platform.

Oh noz, teh Mac's are vulnerable if you use bluetooth or iChat, well... of course they are.
If you claim any system is bullet-proof you're a fool, however comparing your likelihood of having your Mac compromised to your PC, is a bit like comparing the odds of getting syphillis between a buddist monk and Kilmoll.

Yeah, I suck at the whole internet trolling thing and I tend to fall into the "can't we all just get along" category. Obviously this is at odds with posting on an Internet forum.
I think every time some mac user has told me "mac's cant get viruses" has taken a month out of my life. I also think the more they touted their platform as being "virus-free"* they were just baiting more people to make viruses for their os.
*maybe not exactly "virus free, but it was always really close to the border of "immune to all viruses" and "really unlikely to get a virus."
Dismissing them out of hand is something for idiots though. Mac users are much more likely to be affluent than PC users. They are much more likely to purchase software or accessories and are extremely brand loyal. They are a group of people who represent a premium demographic in terms of targeting consumer electronics, media services, as well as lifestlye products/services.
Saying macs suck because there are more PCs is like saying BMWs suck because there are more Toyotas. the fact of the matter is there are some PCs that are premium level that directly rival the functionality of Macs, but there are a lot that don't .
You can surf the web the same on both, just like driving at 45 MPH in traffic is not THAT much different in a BMW vs a Camry
All three main OSes, Windows/OSX/Linux kick ass in different ways and for different reasons.
No OS is secure from viruses/haxx0rs/etc. To think otherwise is foolhardy and shows a lack of knowledge about human nature, technology, and the real world.
Finally, I have an unhackable system in front of me. It's not connected to the Internet, I've disabled all the USB ports, removed all the drives, disconnected the keyboard and mouse, and powered it down. -- There's an important point I'm making here...

Macs suck for reasons given on other threads! Available software has a lot to do with it....directly a result of decisions made by Apple's upper management to keep things proprietary.
Comparing a BMW to a Toyota doesn't work if the BMW can only use a few roads compared to the Toyota...sure, if you're surfing the net, any box will work.
Macs don't suck at all. They simply choose to focus on a niche market and do it far better than any other platform. I am of course talking about photo editing, musical editing, video editing, and virtually every entertainment related specialization.
I can describe Linux and Windows each with a single word:
Windows - Accessibility
Linux - Control

My point had nothing to do with Macs sucking (if you're referring to my post at all). I was referring to the number of virii for Windows PC's vs Macs in relation to the number of available systems to infect.
Personally I preferred the Mac when I did web design several years back mainly because of the speed it could handle photo editing.
Winnow, the image editing you're doing is (you're going to have to trust me on this) not to the level that I'm talking about. The same with video. I'm quite certain that everything you'd need to do you could do just fine with a PC, but any serious production/publishing house is using Macs, and has been for years and years. Most of the comics you're reading if colored, are colored on Macs by a team of colorists.

That has nothing to do with capability.
Anything a Mac can do, a PC can do just as well, if not better.

this statement is worse than when i overheard an apple store employee telling a lady that if she was going to be doing any programming, she'd be better off with a Windows machine.
the darwin kernel is slick. really, the main reason windows machines are 'better' is because there is more support and more software.
noel makes a good point though... we trade security for productivity. the super secure OSes are a bitch to setup, administer, and maintain. on a side note, the SEDarwin project will add some interesting things to the mix.
Hype, a glossy finish, and security exaggerations aren't enough for the corporate world to choose Apple...but they may put a little more thought into purchases than your average consumer that sees a cool commercial on TV and some fancy words come out of Steve Job's mouth and thinks, wow, that would match the look of my iPod! Gloss baby, yeah!
I don't have an issue with people who like to use Apple computers but the arguments aren't convincing.

I was going to post some example here, so I started thinking about all the things I use on a day-to-day basis, and I finally came to the conlusion that everything I do on my Mac, I could do on a Windows machine. I can't say how many of those things would be easier or harder or better or worse, because that seems too subjective, but I can say that I like the Mac better. Not that it *is* better, I just like it better. Maybe it's the way it behaves or the way it looks or the way it prevents me from playing any video games except WoW, I don't know.
To be honest, I'm now very interested in setting up a Windows box just to see how easy it would be to do all the same tasks on it that I do on my Mac and see which works best. Hey, a new laptop would be a hell of a lot cheaper!

The rest of your post makes a little more sense to me. Personal preference is a valid reason...sort of like using an antique phone because the look of it fits better with your furniture or something. You'd spend more for that phone although it may not have all the features of a better phone. The most import thing is the look of it.

I like Photoshop on a Mac better than Photoshop on a PC but they both have the same functionality and similar speed... it's just that using PS on a mac seems more intuitive.
As for Pro Tools, PC just blows away Mac in ease of use and speed.

They'd be awesome for productivity in all sorts of jobs now, since you can't do dick on one without the root password, that you don't have, unless the admin wants you to.
There's not a million different useless shareware programs that aren't much more than spyware vectors, etc, etc.
Early corporate adopters could expect to see the extra cost absorbed in productivity increases, right up until they became popular enough to get their own version of Bonzai Fucking Buddy (tm).

Ive used approximately 50 macs and about 8 pcs most top of the line....and every time a new mac comes out its the best machine for a year then pcs catchup and surpass for about 2yrs. Ive used the machines for intense photoshop purpose since about 1995.
Atm I use a PC for my side job to process upto 900MB files and maybe 20 of them at one time, and it rocks and is almost instant(3.2 dual processor 512mb vid, 4GIG ram and 27inch monitor), but I had it built like a Mac and name it NASA.....Like Voro. said your avg mac rocks your avg pc sucks, but a great PC can surpass a Mac. except right after the new Mac came out, but I see that trend turning since Macs will be Intell and PCs are going more and more with dual processors then quad then 8 then 16 ect. I like both machines in summary.
