Indianapolis

As I recall we have quite a few VV'rs that are from this area.. what do you think of the area? In terms of cost of living, education (public school) system. Life there in general.

I have never been to the area, though i have been to other areas in the midwest. I might have a significant job opportunity available there that would require my relocation from the phoenix area. Basically double my current salary, company pays for relocation. the entire package sounds great, but i just don't know enough about the area.

From what I have heard the cost of living is significantly lower then what I am used to here in Phoenix. I did a quick search on houses for sale and it SEEMS like i can get OMGIAMRETARDEDCAUSEALOTISTWOWORDS more house there for the price I would pay here.. but my criteria might have been off or the area not quite right.

Not sure I'd say there are quite a few...

First off I'd say if you have a "significant job opportunity" I'd go ahead and take it. Most areas of the country aren't so bad that I'd avoid a good opportunity because of them.

I'm not sure what houses cost in Phoenix but around here you can get something pretty good for under $200k.

I can't say anything about the schools but as for the general area.. Eh.. It's sort of boring really. It's the midwest, what do you expect? But there's nothing stopping you from taking the job and then looking for something in a more exciting area.

Anyway, the company is paying for relocation.. What do you have to lose!

Phoenix placed first in highest price increase in new homes in the nation. Didn't used to be that way!

I was stationed at Fort Ben Harrison in Indy in 92 for a bit and I like it as a place to live. It is rust belt and seems to have the same racial tensions as most rust belt palces but offers some decent things to do, and is close to Cincy and Chitown.

And Oregon...

As far as Indy, I went there once and didn't really care for it. It isn't like it is a horrible place or anything--it is just the midwest.
