while i am okay with having rocked the paint off of my guitar, it is not cool that not all of the fret buttons work 100% of the time. neither do hammer-ons, and the strumming seems off. anyone else experience this as well?
I'm afraid it sounds as if you have a lemon for a controller. I'm actually very impressed with how accurate the button presses are.
Just picked it up again last night and was on fire. Got through the third and fourth tier including Crossroads on expert. I just need that Motorhead song to open up the second to last group of five songs.
The game never ceases to amaze me as it just gets more and more fun the harder it gets. Just how they introduce new and more difficult techniques is a real blast. I can't even play it on hard any longer because it's too boring.
ahhh well i'm actually glad this is an isolated incident, i would be disappointed if red octane were selling faulty equipment (ala microsoft). it gives me an excuse to get the cherry red gibson version!
I know my friend's guitar has a strumming problem since he plays it all the time. Sometimes it's not accurate and doesn't go through. Haven't run into any fret problems with his.
Definately gonna pick up the cherry gibson and rock the air guitar!
I don't know a lot about this game but do you have to know how to play a guitar first? I took lessons briefly over ten years ago but never stuck with it because my fingers were too soft and I couldn't build any calouses.
From what I can tell you're just pushing down a few buttons - DDR-esque. I doubt they would sell a game that requires a minimal knowledge of how to play guitar.

I had no guitar experience, other than air of course , whatsoever before picking up the "controller" and playing it. I'm pretty decent at easy and medium, but hard is in a whole new league for me. Need more practice.
You'll get the general idea once you begin a song and you'll pick it up fast regardless.
you need absolutely 0 guitar experience. however, when your controller breaks and you NEED to play boston's more than a feeling, the real guitar is your only hope.

also: real guitars don't come with star power.
Which is a funny thing since, because of the way the game is played, more than a feeling is easier to play on a real guitar. I'm sure James Taylor songs would be a bitch to play in GH format.
As Sy said, you don't need real guitar experience, just good hand/eye coordination and a sense of rhythm. And believe me, if you have even a little of the above, you'll get better quickly. I remember bitching about having to start using my pinky in medium mode. Now I'm one Zakk Wylde solo away from finishing it on expert.
Just beat cowboys from hell + bark at the moon on expert (bark at the moon took 3 tries, first two I failed at 98%). A weight has been lifted off me...
