I recently bought myself one of these little surround sound systems for my living room, it may be small but it fits my needs and I generally love it.
The main problem i am having though, is that it plays certain region codes as black and white only, everything else works, sound and everything. Does this have something to do with the system not being code free?
I am a wee bit confused about this and would appreciate any input anyone can give me, including ways to break the region codes if that is what is casuing the problem.

Either your Television can't do NTSC and PAL, or your DVD player can't convert between them for your TV.
Based on location I'd guess you're feeding an NTSC signal into a PAL set?
Anyway... decent TV will handle both, unless you're in the US in which case PAL is unavailable. Damn yankees. Decent DVD player will convert as well...

Heh, I design HT's and didnt know that answer..
Teg, you could also try getting a cheapy DVD player with an optical out and NTSC/PAL conversion and attaching it to your HT system...
Might be a cheaper fix than a new TV (or check the setup menus of the HTIB system, it might do it and you have it set wrong).
