It could be that the only purpose for your every existence, is to serve as a warning to others.

worst part is the avi is only about 26 seconds and doesn't really show all that much. Not like there is much to see with snow and rain. I would have liked to have seen a storm or something.

I try to never use their downloader. I get my patches from Fileplanet or from a friend that posts it on his server (yes I realize the question was about the movie).

I also use fileplanet, but ironically enough, I use their downloader. :)

However, I will say that I've noticied increased and more accurate download speeds with it (as opposed to their web version).

I'm still very skeptical about this round of AWESOME PRIEST CHANGES.

Hopefully they set an option to disable weather effects.

Weather plays no role in my enjoyment of the game... in fact Im certain it detracts from it as it slows down framerates.

Im skeptical about this whole weather thing...

Whenever I hear weather in game context, I think of the fucking plains of Karana. Fuck that shit.

Some folks like to be a bit more immersed in their game play. As it stand the game is rather stagnant and lifeless to me. Weather makes a big difference in the ambiance of the game. I really miss the storms that EQ had.

What I would like to see is weather have a more direct effect in game play. Such as, certain spells are more powerful in the rain or Fire bases spells are less effective in the rain, or Bow/Gun shots are tougher to do in high winds. Hell toss in a tornado that will take you out of the zone and kill you if you get in the path. That would be very cool.

Sounds kinda cool Bubba. But when you were nearing the end of a long raid and hurricane katrinna washed your whole fucking raid out of the zone, you might think otherwise :)

It isn't like it would happen all the time but the fact that it could would be really cool. Kind of like the "invasion" that are supposedly happening only better.

Think of all the cool shit that you could do with a huricane. All the shit that washes up on shore, the zeps crash in the ocean, the boats get sunk. Besides it isn't like you are going to Raid anywhere near the ocean anyhow(maybe ZG). For your raid to be effected it would really need to be something like an Earthquake. That would be hella cool.

Pure dreams here, but yeah, a huge Earthquake that made a massive split in the Earth, that could be in some way implemented while players were online (impossible I imagine) whereby (for example) from Southshore to Plaguelands various cracks appeared of enormous size, and there were instances implemented - something for the future, a few years off, so that it had some actual relevance to the world instead of an early destruction of perfectly legitimate zones.

Plaguelands already has big holes in it dotted about the place so you could integrate some lore in, then again I don't know Warcraft lore from the earlier games so I could be totally wrong.

That would be cool though Bubba :)

Well, it's not just the graphic effects of weather that I enjoy, it's all the sound that comes with it. The pitter patter of rain hitting a river, the boom of a thunderclap off in the distance, or the harsh wind of a snowstorm, ect. all help with the emersion factor and add greatly to my enjoyment of a game.

Yeah, the constant whistling of those snowstorms truly increased my immersion, to the point I disabled the fucking sound in EQ. I don't hate the idea of weather, but I really hated that there was no way to turn it down. Those fucking storms in EQ were vary annoying because they were louder than my spell effects and lasted all goddamn night.

I remember reading some of the original stuff that was going on at SOE (believe it was still basically Verant at the time) for Kunark. There were some cool weather effects/storms they were talking about implementing. They included effects that could increase or decrease spell effects/healing. Something like that would be nice once in a while. I seem to remember that some other game had talked about having weather patterns that would move across the world as well, but I cannot remember which this was (AC2 maybe?). Planetside implemented some REALLY annoying sandstorms, but the decrease in visual ranges actually meant something when you were a sniper/pilot.

I don't see an event being possible in which the world was affected such as something on an earthquake level in an MMO really. The effect when Anguish was finished (shaking the camera view across zones) in EQ was actually kind of cool though. This is kind of used in WoW now, at least on the Horde side, when Rend or Onyxia's heads are turned in. The screen shake was replaced with a buff which is only available in certain "cities" (and to certain races?)

It could be implemented in the same fashion the wall behind the Satyr boss of DM-east falls apart... unless I'm misunderstanding what you mean. Shaky camera view across a zone, parts of the ground collapse and fall away revealing cracks in the earth with lost dungeons / whatever. A scripted earthquake event would be very possible.

A follow up to the earthquake could be an event where players get to collect 500 pails of dirt each from Booty Bay and walk with them to Eastern Plaugelands and fill in the hole.

The reward will be a silk bandage for each trip for horde, and 100g for alliance. An amazing zone no one can enter until 2007 will open when you're finished.

I thought that was the event to unlock the weather effects.
Do you work for blizzard?

Seriously though.
I can't see the weather effects being that much more impressive than those in Everquest. The graphics engine really isn't even that much more advanced.

The environment weather effects in EQ2 are so well done. If WoW had even half of the graphics engine of EQ2 I might be semi-excited about it taking them like 18 months to add rain and snow.

How about those lightning strikes in Blasted Lands? Anyone ever get hit by one? I can't remember taking any damage from that. It would be cool if you did though. Including splash damage.

They don't, and when asked recently they said there's no plans to make weather cause any kind of detrimental effect. It's purely for show. I'm happy for it, but I hope there's a little more variety than rain and snow. Dust storms and drifting snow and shit would be nice.

I agree with both posts here. It would be cool to see more than just snow falling and rain falling. Drifting snow, rain puddling, etc would make it not just the same old weather shit from every other game. I like that idea about the fog masteen, that would be cool.

In EQ2, when it rains, stone surfaces get a nifty sheen to them that reflects light.

Yeah, I remember from the little while that I played EQ2 that they had seemed to make a fair improvement on weather effects. Granted WoW's graphics engine isnt anything in comparison to EQ2's, but it would still be nice to see them do what they could with it. Surely thats more than the simplistic rain drops and snowflakes just falling.

Of course I was exaggerating... but 7 years of technological/graphical advancements and the best weather effects the idiots at Blizzard can come up with is that?

Precisely. Having rain shimmer on the ground, snow drift, rain puddle.. These things dont seem like they would require some amazing graphics engine.

Really hope the weather isn't binary like in EQ.

"It starts to rain"
Enter instant thunderstorm.

Few drops here and there would be swell before a storm.

It would also be nice if the weather made sense in relation to where you are. If North/South Ro were real I doubt it would rain every other day for hours!
