Personally I thought this was funny. People CONSTANTLY ask my wife and I why we are sending our son to a Catholic school (and we aren't Catholic) rather the local Crispie one... here is one of those reasons...
Conway Christian School is hosting a regional conference that is open to the public March 3-4, 2006. Worldview Weekend will bring a panel of authors and speakers to Conway Christian High School Gym/Event Center for the purpose of presenting scientific evidence of creation and factual historical information that has not been taught thoroughly in the schools which will surprise and enlighten all who attend. There will be a special breakout session for teens. Speakers who are confirmed for this WVW event are David Barton, Sean McDowell, Ron Carlson, Bob Lepine, and Brannon Howse.
Be watching for the VTN-TV Arkansas Alive show around February 13 at 7:00am and 10:00pm. Brannon Howse and Janet Gathright are scheduled to be on and will discuss the Conway Worldview Weekend conference.
Who knows I just might attend, just to start something... maybe I could bring Jay Gould with me I sure would like to see this "Scientific Evidence"
LOOK HOW MUCH THOSE PENGUINS LOVE THEIR BABIES! THAT'S PROOF OF A BENEVOLENT CREATOR RIGHT THERE!
"There is at least as much need to curb the cruel greed and arrogance of part of the world of capital, to curb the cruel greed and violence of part of the world of labor, as to check a cruel and unhealthy militarism in international relationships." -Theodore Roosevelt
Ill bet 10 VV that the "evidence" require you to blindly ignore a lot of proven scientific facts, and a lot of theories, and will require you to A, have a faith in God making it happen, or B, take the translation of a 2000 year old book as truth.
"Terrorism is the war of the poor, and war is the terrorism of the rich"
I don't know what is worse, your kid turned into a maniacal fundie who thinks god made the world 200 years ago, or overwhelmed with guilt every time he thinks about a girl, with an asshole roughly the same diameter of the local diocese priest's cock.
He lamented that certain American "creationists" had brought the debate back to the "dogmatic" 1800s, and said their arguments weren't science but ideology.
"This isn't how science is done," he wrote. "If the model proposed by Darwin is deemed insufficient, one should look for another, but it's not correct from a methodological point of view to take oneself away from the scientific field pretending to do science."
Intelligent design "doesn't belong to science and the pretext that it be taught as a scientific theory alongside Darwin's explanation is unjustified," he wrote.
"It only creates confusion between the scientific and philosophical and religious planes."
I am surprisingly impressed by the wording
The first duty of a patriot is to question the government
LOL no I wanted him to go to a school were he would learn about God, sing Bible songs etc... I just didn't want him to go to a school where he was worried about wheither or not he was going to HELL before he could even write his name... there is a time to talk about the afterlife etc... I just don't believe that time is when someone is 4 or 5 years old.
The average age for a child to understand abstract concepts is about 10 or 11. I think smarter kids can understand much earlier... say maybe 6 or 7 if they are really smart. Until then they need to know that God loves them... they will have more than enough time to worry about the other.
The other reason I didn't send them to this school is that an friend was "let go" because he mentioned evolution in his 8th grade science class and they have ties to Bob Jones University. It's no longer there but last year there was a guest lecture series at BJU (BJ hah) where people presented "facts" that the world was FLAT! Yes you didn't read that wrong... there really are people who still believe the world is flat. I don't want my son anywhere near people in a position of authority who might even suggest that idea. I'm trying to teach him to respect his teachers etc... I wouldn't want to have to allow him to laugh in the faces.
