Retarded IE freezes trying to load Windows Update

Post by *~*stragi*~* »

IE keeps freezing whenever I try to run windows update, the progress bar fills up and it says it's loading the page, but nothing fucking happens. It's been sitting here for an hour, rebooting etc had no effect.

I've had various windows update shite happen in the last few months... reinstalling SP2 has fixed it on a few different machines for me.

I never run windows update. I have the update thingy set to notify me if there's an update and when I feel like rebooting the computer, I let windows download the update and install it. Seems to work better that way than going to the update webpage.

Edit: nm, it sounds like you do the same thing. You wouldn't have these problems with linux!

i acutally used windiz update and firefox!

i think that when i repaired my windows installation after it fucked itself last time somehow sp2 got fucked up, i'm trying to install the software required on my pc for my xbox 360 to be able to access it for mp3s and it says I don't have sp2 installed.

also, the list of patches was pretty fucking funny, i should have taken a ss. it was 60 updates and literally 99 percent of them ended in "could allow remote code execution"

Well considering XP is over 4 years old... I don't think that's too bad really.

You definately don't have SP2 installed. I reinstalled XP on one of my machines last night and used the install with SP2 embedded. Only had about 10-12 critical updates to install. Was done in 10 minutes.

Yeah I had this problem a while back when I went with an old set of install disks.

I think the way I got around it was to get sp2 from some other place and then run windows update.

For some reason, it gets all spastic when you try to update it from an older version.
