DeLay stepping down permanently from House Majority Leader
I found this article on MSNBC. Apparently, due to the efforts of a few Republican House members, they began to circle a petition around that asked for DeLay to step down permanently and for the Republican leadership to seek a new leader. The Abramoff scandal and other problems are dogging the Republicans, and with the Dems making some gains in the polls recently I guess they started to get jumpy. Anyway, here's the article.

It's not very well written, but I haven't found anything else yet. It's certainly something to discuss; maybe DeLay is having more problems that we thought.

In my opinion he is one of the most if not the most despicable politicians presently in office, this is great news and will hopefully start a wave of decline for fundamentalist conservatives.
now if we could only get some dirt on frist, then we will be in good shape...at least delay somewhat presents himself in a somewhat, at least mediocre intelligent (though clearly evil and pissed off at life) manner, frist on the other hand, is a fucking moron

Frist has been making moves towards the middle in, what is assumed, an attempt for the 2008 presidency. He recently has had problems with a scandal involving some stock in a family member's company, or maybe I'm buggering all the details. The bare bones of it is he has a conflict of interest in something, and that's being investigated as well.
I just don't see Frist as the same type of person that DeLay is. The whole redistricting of Texas and the circus that followed after with the planes picking up Democrats who left the state to protest the gerrymandering...he just scares me. A lot. Frist I can live with, DeLay, not so much.

DeLay's allegiance lies with his party and not his constituentcy or his ideals. He would happily admit this himself (although probably not phrased in the same way). His mission as a politician is to grow and support the Republican party by any means necessary. Advocating policies which are in line with his ideals or would benefit the people of America are secondary goals which fall after benefiting the Republican party. Given that, I don't understand how anyone (even a strong conservative) could support him. I suppose some people believe so strongly in the Republican party that they think that anything which benefits the GOP also benefits them, and justify supporting him in that manner. However, this view seems ludicrous and self-evidently wrong to me.
Bill Frist is an asshole who dishonored his previous profession by claiming to 'diagnose' Terri Schiavo from Congress based on a video put together by an advocate on the side of the issue which he supported. That's pathetic.
I might vote for Chuck Hagel.

Also, Metanis, I never once said he was guilty. I said he's a jackass, and the redistricting was a catastrophe for democracy, but I never said he was guilty. I hope he is; I'm not impartial. I think he's a crook, and the sooner we get rid of him, the better off this country will be, in my opinion of course. But in this discussion, I've never said he was. I'll be the first person to join you in saying they are innocent until proven guilty; when I served on a jury, most of the jurors automatically assumed the man was guilty because the police charged him. That scared me more than anything about the trial, a simple misdemeanor case. That the majority of the jurors had this attitude of guilty until proven innocent really left an imprint on me. With that said, you'll never see me presume guilt. There's a difference between hoping he is and saying he is.
