The official VV 2006 predictions thread!

Post by Drolgin Steingrinder »

Hi.

This is a thread for posting your predictions, considered, ludicruous or whatever, about this new year we've got. I figure everyone can have a go and then sometime around dec. 30th Winnow or some other thread necromantic will dig it up and we can laugh at ourselves for how inaccurate we've been.

Tech/Computers:
The Xbox 360 will lose developer support following the successful JPN release of the PS3, causing more games to be released on the PS3 primarily and then later being ported to MS's platform.

Windows Vista will be delayed as the consumer demand is non-existent and the product is still far too bug-ridden.

ATI and Nvidia will continue to release new video cards with "improved" architectures every 2 months.

Intel will catch up to AMD in the processor department - although the Intel Apples will be a major disappointment to everyone as they will require proprietary software (OS X+). Tech freaks all over the world cry class action but with no effect.

Bethesda will finally release Oblivion and it will be as bugged up as Morrowwind was upon release.

In Q2, Duke Nukem Forever is announced to be released in 'Late 2007'. Noone believes this.

Sports:

Spain will disappoint at the World Cup once again. As will England. Brazil will all but cruise to yet another World championship. Solely to piss off the Danes who didn't qualify, the Swedes will do well, but the surprise darlings of the tournament will be the Ecuadorian team who will manage to qualify to the quarter finals and *gasp* play entertaining football in the process.

Politics:
GWB will continue his policies of hypocrisy, touting responsibility in government as a primary goal of his administration while completely ignoring the trespasses of his advisors. Iraq remains largely unchanged as doubts arise about the legality of the elections. Saddam's trial turns even more farcical and is now resembling one of the worse bits on a Benny Hill show.

Entertainment:

I was going to write something about Ben Affleck's teeth, but it was far less funny in text than in my head. You fill in the blanks.

i could see us getting attacked on 6/6/6. the media would go batshit insane.

i figure around 30k troops will come home in 06.. hopefully reducing our numbers below 100k there.

democrats will launch a new nationwide free wireless internet access plan, and use it to springboard the party back into relevance.

the ps3 will be plagued with as many launch problems as the 360, but by the end of the year will have eclipsed the 360 in marketshare or be very close to it.

after several class action lawsuits for injuries resulting from use, nintendo recalls all revolution controllers and issues a softer model.

the next quake or doom is released... no one gives a flying shit.

another 12 months lacking increases in computer speeds.

duke nukem forever remains unreleased.

oprah gains 40 pounds

dick clark dies, so does 50 cent, and clint eastwood

Shirley Temple Black will marry Arnold Schwartzenegger, changing her name to Shirley Temple Black Nigger.

EQ Related predictions:
* There will be server consolidations on all of SoE's MMOGs. EQ will be winnowed (sorry) down to eight to ten servers.

* Intent on driving out that nasty exploit known as "fun", EQ devs work backward through expansions stealth nerfing content. In 2005 monster missions from DoD and Creator missions from DoN were tuned. Expect the devs to fuck up encounters from OoW to old world in '06. As an example, Venril Sathir will now have 2 million hit points, spawn adds every 5 seconds, and death touch the entire raid if the wrong class gets the kill shot. The devs haven't had time to address the itemization of any mobs in these changed encounters however.

* The /pizza command will be the compelling feature of the next expansion.

* Fan Faire's moldy and decaying corpse will be propped up one last time, again in Vegas. Five people attend. Three are manginas.

* Mass wave of shutdowns or repurposing of independent server message boards. VV will go dark in May 2006 and reappear as a forum for erstwhile rapper wannabees and manic depressive Canucks.

* Sony and Sigil sue the crap out of each other for intellectual property violations when VSoH is released. The suit is settled by Brad McQuaid and Kelly Flock dueling in the Arena.

Someone is gonna catch their house on fire again! Better get the hose out since the extinguisher did not work last time.
When I was younger, I used to think that the world was doing it to me and that the world owes me some thing…When you're a teeny bopper, that's what you think. I'm 40 now, I don't think that anymore, because I found out it doesn't f--king work. One has to go through that. For the people who even bother to go through that, most assholes just accept what it is anyway and get on with it." - John Lennon

I could go for a good flame on me.... Never been before. What controversial statement could I make that's flame-worthy here? Keep in mind I'm used to pussy-footing the Quellious boards.

This is short notice. I wanted to get some predictions in quickly so am not able to go into a full Edgar Cayce type trance.

TECH

Apple will release another small shiny electronic device along with lots of flashy ads promoting it. The masses will buy it in droves even though it will cost twice as much as another product that does the exact same thing but lacks a high-gloss finish.

Xbox 360 will be fully hacked before the release of the PS3. It will be speculated that Microsoft helped the hackers in a strategic move to spur interest in the 360.

SPORTS

An entire college or pro level sports team will die in one incident.

POLITICS/DISASTERS

A terrorist attack invloving a sporting event will occur within the United States. (see above possibly)

A medium sized building in the United States (5-12 floors) will be destroyed from the inside, collapsing it and killing 100+. Not necessarily caused by terrorism or earthquake.

Israel will take out Iran's nuclear reactor

ENVIRONMENT

Several hurricanes will devastate the Florida coastline. Floridians will once again blame Jeb Bush, George Bush, and anyone else but themselves for living in a surefire disaster zone each year. (my stone cold lock prediction of 2006!...and 2007, and 2008 and,,,)

ENTERTAINMENT

Vanguard will suck.

Saudi Aramco (Saudi Arabina national oil co.) cannot raise there oil output as promised, and it unable to hide the reason from watchdog companies like Petroconsultants. The seeds for future wars are sown! Nations all over the world have an energy dilemma on there hands.
Russia has its own oil...it can sit out, while feeding off its proven siberian reserves, while large, aren't large enough. However, this move would require taking there oil off the global market, which would turn them into a pariah with the west, and really fucking piss off the Chinese, who have some pretty major oil deals going right now. China, turns up the heat on the middle east, trying to snap up more and more oil reserves to try and fill the void that Russia just created. Now the USA gets pissed....I mean fuck, the USA didn't spend all that time brown nosing the Saudi Royal Family, spending billions of dollars Operation Desert Storm, and Operation Iraq Freedom, and now recently with the shit in Iran, none of which are putting out any decent amounts of oil. All this, just to have fucking China outbid them on oil rights in the places were they can get oil.
So the USA starts to think again on having such close ecomonic ties with China in the manufacturing department, drums up a international incident that would clearly implicate China as an agressor to the USA, and puts heavy trade sanctions on them. Of course, this fucks US companies big time, everything from Wal-Mart to General Motors feels the crunch. So the spin doctors in Washington pin it all on China.
As anti-china fever sweeps the USA, China starts to go into a panic mode, and looks to Kazakstan, which has some great proven reserves in the Caspian Sea area. Meanwhile, there is trouble in Saudi Arabia...oil production has peaked. The house of Saud is unable to keep its promise of increased production, and the fallout is bad both domesitcally & internationally for them, and the global oil market. Saudi Arabia just officially fell off the map of future oil. Oil investors scramble for a solution....the USA however, already has one.
China had started to tap Kazakstan opprotunities, and was making good progress when Saudi Arabia was found out. Not much time passes before the USA invades Iran....with its eyes on the prize of Caspian Sea Oil. Russia, seizes the opprotunity, and marches into Kazakstan to slice off its own piece of the Caspian Sea pie.
Tensions between India & Pakistan flareup like a pack of hemmeroids over god knows what, and the two launch themselves into a war over the Kashmir, again.
This is it...China says "fuck that!" and send a billion screamin' chinamen over the border into Kazakstan. Now the shit has hit the fan. The Caspian Sea area in Iran & Kazakstan becomes a battle ground.
Syria, sees a major fiasco has unfolded..sure their neighbor Iran has been invaded, which is a big-time threat to them....but shit, China & Russia threw a wrench in the plan. The USA has bigger problems than dealing with possible Syrian intervention, and is confident that the USA wouldn't risk coming for them now.
So Syria decides the time is right to move on Israel. The USA isn't going to able to come to the rescue now! They invade, in coordination with groups like Hamas, Islamic Jihad, Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigade , etc, etc. raise havoc inside Israeli borders as Syrian troops start to launch an attack. Israel, expecting exactly this to happen, launches it's well-rehersed defensive plan, and the fight is on for Israel's very survival. Damascus is at a serious risk of getting nuked, but very credible rumors circulate that Syria has the bomb, and a medium range missle capability...so nuking Damascus might mean sacrificing Tel Aviv.

So there's my prediction for 2006. Any questions?
