A .torrent file is contains nothing you would want to burn to a dvd/cd unless you were trying to keep a log of the torrents you've been on. The .torrent file is comprised of info like filesize, name, tracker adress, client-specific instructions and of course a hash of each block.

If you have a huge file that's labeled .torrent, it'll usually be an error on the seeder's fault in naming it.

Example:

Code: Select all

...\downloads\bittorrent\movies\40 YR OLD VIRGIN.DEMON.AVI.torrent -- 689.47mb
is a f'ed up filename. Rename it to the .avi extension. If however, the file is the size of a normal .torrent file - <100kb, then you only have the info file and you'll need to load up a BitTorrent client. I personally recommend µtorrent which you can find at http://www.utorrent.com .

Ok, next question.

I downloaded king kong today from isohunt.com and also aeon flux. Both of them are a bunch of files, but none that actually play the movie.. I am assuming yet another bunk file was put online by some waste of oxygen, but I wanted to make sure there wasnt anything I need to do that I might not know about first.

Also, I had burned the chronicles of narnia on to a dvd + and a dvd - R.. The minus works fine in my dvd player, and any other dvd player ive tried it in. But it wouldnt work right in either of my friends dvd players in their cars.

The menu would come up and when you hit enter to start it, the movie froze. I think on the + if you hit stop and pressed play again it would start it from the beginning, but you could pause, fast forward/rewind or anything like that.

Anyone have any experience with this that can tell me what if anything I need to do to fix these problems ?

JFC, get a decent client (like Azureus) where you can see what files the torrents contain.

Are your "bunch of files" .rar, .r01, .r02, files? If so, get winrar, if not give more detail.. FFS

Chances are the car DVD players suck. I also find the media makes a lot of difference; if I burn onto printable DVD's (that have a solid/opaque backing) they work a lot better in dodgy DVD players, as opposed to the shiny/see-through DVD's you tend to get in Wal-Mart etc.

I used winrar and got aeon flux all figured out, but king kong isnt working. When I extract the files with winrar it does, but its just making a bin file and a cue file for each of the three disks.

bin and cue files are basically iso images. Nero should burn them fine.

To view the bin file on your computer (no burning) you need a program that can mount the bin file as if it were a CD/DVD. Daemontools and alcohol 120% do this well.

I am trying to use the daemontools thing to watch the file I talked about.

When I mount the image or whatever.. and select the king kong file (ive tried all 3 discs) it brings up a folder with several folders in it.. CDI, ext ,mpegav, segment and vcd.. Some of the folders have files in them and some dont.. And none of the files that are there are playable files.. Ive never used a program like this so maybe im doing something wrong, but I have no idea what.

The files in the mgped folder are avi files and playable if you have the right codecs and they aren't corrupt.

First thing I do after downloading an SVCD is mount it and extract the AVI files so I can play them with Zoomplayer or WMP, etc. Just copy the avi files to a directory and rename them to the movie title (name the first file before copying the second as it will have the exact same name and copy over the first if you dont)

The King Kong version I downloaded was a 4 CD version and it works fine.

It's possible that some of the files you get will be in DVD format (either now or in the future). If you don't have DVD software on your computer then you're going to need one to play it.

Load up your DVD software and tell it to play the drive that daemontools is emulating.

oops, they're mpg files. Each SVCD's filename should be "AVSEQ01.mpg" located in the MPEG folder.

I got Kong to play in WinDvd while I had it mounted, but when I try and put the bin/cue files into a dvd project in nero I get an error message. I tried a few different project types in nero with the same results from all.

I just get bad files maybe ?

I dont have any mpeg files or anything winnow, the file in each of them that is a the bulk of the size is a .dat file..

Make the switch, Zaelath - utorrent is a shitload better than Azureus, trust me.

I'll second that coming from a previous Azureus user. uTorrent is the better option.

I like the Azureus interface.. But hate that it's java based and seems like a memory leaking hog. uTorrent screens dont look too bad may give it a try.

I switched from Azureus to uTorrent as well and am quite happy with it. Interface is better for Azureus but man.. the memory leaks sucked ass.

The µTorrent interface is very close to the Azureus one, and it has all the functionality (except for the peerguardian plugin, but I always hated that for Az anyway) of that program - it just uses almost no memory, has a ton of other functionalities and takes up no space. I'm hawt for the µ! (<3 ALT+0181)

How well is µTorrent compared to say BitTornado (which is what I use now)?

uTorrent has a similar UI and functionality to Azureus except it's not written in Java and is supported more it seems.

Try it. It takes like 2 seconds to install.*

I've used BitComet (which is shit and extremely unsecure), Azureus, BitTorrent (the original), ABC and a few others that I've happily forgotten. µTorrent is by far the best of them, overall. That's just my opinion of course*. The only issue I've experienced personally is that it sucks at superseeding, but there are constant updates to the program so I expect they'll fix that soon.

Yeh, they converted me too... very nice. I still think that it's a little ironic that you use a 115Kb program to download 4Gb files though :)
