Rent (Spoilers)

I took my wife to see this Friday night and we both enjoyed it. I saw the play several years ago and enjoyed it quite a bit. There are things to like and dislike about both versions. Overall I like the movie better but the singing was better in the play. Mimi in the movie was really really hot. Maureen in the movie had a pretty nasty underbite and fish eyes that really didn't do it for me. She looked really good in that skin tight vinyl cat suit though.

The character playing Angel's boyfriend in the movie was not well cast. He just didn't come across as that gay and he wasn't very expressive emotionally. The whole Angel death scene was quite a bit different between movie and play and I thought the play version was a hell of a lot better.

I think except for Mimi, the actors for the main characters in the movie are the same ones who played them in the original broadway production. Idina Menzel (who plays Maureen) is a good actress. I think she received the Tony award for her role as Elphaba in last year's production of Wicked. As far as Angel's boyfriend not coming off as "that gay", that's not really unusual in the real world.

Having said all that, I haven't had time to see the movie yet. I'm looking forward to seeing it since I enjoyed the play.
