(12/09/05 - OCALA, FL) - The mother of a 14-year-old middle school student says she believes the case of a former teacher accused of having sex with her son should not go to trial.
Circuit Judge Hale Stancil last week turned down a plea agreement that would allow the former teacher, 25-year-old Debra Lafave, to avoid a prison sentence.

The boy's mother told the Ocala Star-Banner for a story in Sunday's editions that she disagreed with Stancil's decision to reject the agreement and set the case for trial. "I strongly feel it would further victimize my son if he was forced to testify in court," she said. Her name has been withheld to protect her son's identity.

Lafave was charged in 2004 with two counts of lewd and lascivious battery and one count of lewd and lascivious exhibition after she allegedly had sex with the student in a sport utility vehicle while another teenager drove.

Intense media coverage would create a "media circus" that would further humiliate her son, she said. She disagreed with a therapist who claimed that testifying could be therapeutic for her son.

If the case goes to trial, the notoriety would follow him forever, she said.

Lafave was sentenced in Hillsborough County to three years of house arrest and seven years probation after pleading guilty Nov. 22 to two counts of lewd and lascivious battery for having sex with the boy in a classroom and her home.

A similar sentence had been expected in the plea agreement in Marion County to which prosecutors and defense attorney John Fitzgibbons had agreed.

Under the plea, Lafave would have been required to register as a sex offender, to forfeit her teaching certificate, submit to warrant-less searches, and wear an electronic monitoring device when the court requires it.

She would not have been allowed unsupervised contact with minors and would not have been permitted to drive alone without permission from her community control officer.

Yeah I am sure that poor kid's life is shattered. Because teenaged boys that nail their hot teachers in their fucking classrooms after school are the source of almost constant ridicule.

Did he tell or was it the other kid driving that wasn't getting a peice?

Maybe it's the difference between the fucke and the fucker but I know if I was 14 I wouldn't have told anyone so that I could still be getting a peice of that.

I'd say right now that I wouldn't have told anyone if put in that situation. At the age of 14 I would have told my friends in a heartbeat because thats just the way my mind worked at 14, not at 25. I keep reading how people would never have told at that age and whatnot. I just don't believe most people work like that at such a young age, but thats just me.

I do not understand why it is so socially ok for a 25 year old female to have sex with a 14 year old boy, but if it was a 25 year old man banging a 14 year old girl they would have the book thrown at them.

The difference between an older woman seducing a younger boy and it being ok and an older man seducing a younger girl and it not being ok is because differences in the way boys and girls minds work.

I mean, there are girls that think like guys, and sure girls like sex as much as guys...but the chances of a boy who had sex with his teacher ever actually regretting it are very slim. I know I wouldnt. I've never regretted having sex with anyone, even girls that I dont want anything to do with or woke up beside and thought "what the hell did I do?".

With a girl though it could be different. I'd say there would be a much higher chance of them giving in to the older, possibly attractive teacher and later regretting it and having severe psychological problems.

I could be wrong here, but thats just my opinion. I know most guys would agree with me though.

Men are hardwired psycologically to "spread the seed" to as many fertile females as possible. so yeh, we like having cheap sex.

Women are looking for that one provider. So beeing used for sex is quite against there nature.

No... but they can get the teacher pregnant. I wonder if they'd have to pay child support. That and STDs are the only things a 14 year old boy would be "scarred" by.

That said, both are a significant risks that 14 year olds aren't capable of assessing.

Well, fine then, its ok if she makes the boy use a condom then haha. Because you are right, a condom wouldnt have really been on my mind at 13 or 14, and I always use them now.

heh i dont know why this reminds me of the situation, but back in the day i had a friend that at the age of 17 had sex with one of his moms 56 year old friends...talk about the constent source of ridicule
