Poker!
Poker!
I play poker 3 nights a week with a mixture of tournaments and home games. The majority of my games are tournaments with a once a week home game. I was wondering if anyone else here plays poke.

It's an out of control fad atm.
Xyun was the only one talking about poker on VV before it became big. He gets credit for predicting its surge in popularity.
I don't play much but any activity that gets friends together one night a week on a regular basis is usually a good thing. Poker parties are like Tupperware parties for women....just an excuse to get together and BS.

You play against the house? The only times I have ever heard of playing against the house is in a poker based game, like caribbean poker or let it ride.I chose What's Poker because there was no option for On Occasion or Rarely or I am tired of feeding those damn indian children!

We have a casino in town. I'd much rather win their money than that of my friends who have no money to begin with. The quickest way to destroy a friendship is add money into the mix. So when I am at the casino, which is rarely even though it is in town, I play the 3 card poker. It is mindlessly fun and is luck dependent but the payout for when your luck hits is nice. I'm a black jack player for the most part however.
It's just a game like say monopoly, checkers or backgammon.
lol.
I play poker every day. There are 3 casinos within 30 minutes of my house. On cold days I stay home and play online. I began keeping track of every dollar including the type of game as well as location on august 21st of this year. There's a nifty online program called the Poker Analyst provided by cardplayer.com.

I agree that this is the correct forum to post about poker. While it is just a game, it is not like any other game. It is mathematically complex, psychologically demanding, and requires tremendous patience, discipline, and temper management from serious participants. One card can make you rich and happy or poor and sad yet is a never ending game. There's always another hand.
There's always another hand...

Where is the physical activity involved in Poker?Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively
I don't think that looking at cards and tossing chips qualifies as physical exertion. An activity involving physical exertion and skill that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often undertaken competitively
Ok, getting closer... but posting on Veeshanvault requies one to be about as active as playing a few hands of poker, and although some might disagree, I don't really think that VV is a sport. An active pastime; recreation
I'm just nit picking really... but c'mon, poker is not a sport even by the most generous of definitions. Trying to claim that it is just makes you look silly.
It's a game.
A competitive game that requires a certain level of skill and some luck.
But really how is that any different from Monopoly, Chess or Cribbage.
Ice Dancing is a sport.
Poker is not.

If bowling is a sport, then poker is a sport.

So the poker craze actually annoys me. I'm sick and tired of sitting down at a limit table just to pass some time and some dick wad with no idea what they are doing comes in and tries to play like he's in some no limit tourney. Go home and keep watching poker on TV.

Poker- If it's trendy it isn't a real addiction! Funny thing is, maybe it because I am older now and fewer people I know throw their lives away chasing a white line, but I have seen more peoples lives destroyed by gambling than drugs and alcohol in the past 4 years.

The fun factor is about the same as a casino. You are there with strangers and you don't know thier betting patterns. You do lose a part of poker by not being able to read a guy. You can still go by what you have observed so far at the table, betting pattern's and what type of player he is (ie a rock, fish, maniac)Is internet poker anywhere near as fun as "live poker"? I thought half the fun was trying to figure out the other players' tells:
