Gorillaz - Demon Days

Post by Momopi »

Is it just me or does this CD get better and better everytime you listen to it? The song called dare is so good its amazing. Just wondering if there were any other fans of Gorillaz out there.

Yeah, I played the fuck out of it when it came out.

DARE is my favorite track, being an old Happy Mondays fan, it's nice to see that Mr Ryder can take time out of his drug induced life to record vocals for that track.

If they were going for the, "we made this entire album in my living room with a single keyboard synthesizer" sound, they were dead on.

Feel Good, Inc is a decent song

Fire Coming Out of the Monkey's Head is the best song title of the album

DARE is my favorite track
If that isn't a remake of the song from Transformers the movie, I'm going to be dissappointed...

OK, so you know the single and you looked at the track listings...
In other words, you haven't even listened to the album...

The main guy in Gorillaz is Damon Albarn from Blur and it was produced by Danger Mouse who is a pretty prominent hip-hop producer. The album ranges from brit-pop, to hip hop, to pop to psycho.

Demon Days is the most fucking original album released in 2005.

Not only is Dangermouse the mind behind the Gray Album (forgive me if i'm remembering that incorrectly), he was also a big part of the Dangerdoom album. If any of you were that talented I'd totally send you fan emails.

I'm still in awe of the sheer ingenuity behind Gorillaz.
Even more in awe of their mainstream popularity.

Take:
1 part Britpop singer (Damon Albarn)
1 part artist/illustrator/cartoonist (Jamie Hewlett)
1 part hip-hop producer (Dan the Automater or Danger Mouse)

Mix together into a faceless, heavily stylized, packaged 'fake' band.

Add in special guests ranging from 'tough guy' actor Dennis Hopper, old school rappers De La Soul or Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Madchester icon Shaun Ryder, current chart topper Roots Maunva, turntable whizkid Kid Koala and numerous other notable vocalists and artists.

I listened to about half of it and then said "Glad I didn't pay for this." I wont say it's bad. Just not my sort of thing.

It's a fake band, Chid.
When they released the first album, they intentionally hid their identities behind the 'fake' animated band, Gorillaz.
Albarn seriously had no inkling that Gorillaz would actually be comercially successful. It was essentially a creative outlet for him that wouldn't be tied to the expectations (or stigma) of his work with Blur.

With Gorillaz success it became increasingly difficult to hide the real artists behind the facade.

dont forget about russell the drummer or better know as deltron3030. he is a great solo rapper as it is, and is very underused in this second cd. he had a few great songs on the first album.

Wait, I thought Del the funkee homosapien = Deltron3030. I know that Del rapped with the gorillaz, did he also play drums?
