Path of Neo
Picked this up a few weeks ago not expecting much after the crapfest that was Enter the Matrix and the disappointment of Matrix Online (which is slowly getting better now).
Anyone who is a fan of the movies will have gret fun with this game.
You are basically playing Neo from the beginning of the first movie.
There are cutscenes and montages from the movies spliced between levels and the plot of the game (so far) faithfully follows the movies.
One of the first levels has you in the office building, on the phone with Morpheus when agents come to get you (neo). You have the option to actually get on the scaffolding and try to escape the agents.
The earlier levels are mostly tutorials but it ties in well with how the movie introduced Neo to understanding the Matrix and his abilities (I know Kung Fu).
As with most 3rd person action/fighting games, the controls and camera take some getting used to. A gamepad would probably be optimal for control.
The fighting is very visceral. The multi-hit focus (bullet time) martial arts moves are simply awesome. There are loads of melee weapons (swords, staves, axes) each with unique animations.
One thing I haven't quite gotten the knack for is 'gun-fu'. You can focus jump or wall jump and have 360 degree targeting while airborne... I just don't seem to have the dexterity to do that effectively though... maybe with some practice.
Even if you have a passing interest in the Matrix franchise, you might wanna check it out. It's a really fun game.
Oh yea, the graphics are good (not great) but the sound is awesome. Best cranked up with THX speakers and a good sub.

Do not play this on PC. It's basically a direct port from the PS2 so not only does it have poor graphics, but it plays horribly and is buggy beyond belief.
There are two features in the graphics (that cannot be turned off) that not only make the game look worse but it will cause it to slow down to epic proportions on any computer. If you enjoy 5 FPS during the most intense parts, then this is your game.

I wanted to read the rest of your post (I actually did, but admitting it takes some of the effect from this post) but the shock of reading the above 6 words after your previous statements regarding MO have left me speechless.miir wrote:...and the disappointment of Matrix Online...
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

Nowhere did I splooge over MxO or say it was a good/great game.
The closest I came to a compliment was when I said:
Here's a link to the thread.it really wasn't half as bad as I was expecting it to be.
I basically just said what I liked and what I didn't like about it and had some fun trading flames back and forth with you and masteen.

I was curious to what you were talking about so I wandered over to the atari forums to find these problems.Rellix wrote:Do not play this on PC. It's basically a direct port from the PS2 so not only does it have poor graphics, but it plays horribly and is buggy beyond belief.

I grabbed the patch right after I installed. I guess it addressed most of the graphical and performance issues people were having.
I wouldn't say the graphics are poor. They are a very definate step up from the PS2 graphics. Higher resolutions and FSAA do help a lot. The textures could have been given a high res treatment but the quality of the animations, combat interactions and physics more than compensate for the average graphics.

Re: Path of Neo
Your obsession with the Matrix is frightening, granted you were one of the 5 subscribers to the Matrix Online and for that we commend you. But you need to stop this obsession it is unhealthy. You're future wife doesn't need that kind of psychological and emotional baggage going into a marriage.miir wrote:Blah blah blah I wish I were in the Matrix
We love you man, but let it go. It's cool. It's cool.
