High School Reunion

Post by Winnow »

I've never been to one of these. It's for the school I graduated HS from in Switzerland but is being held in Vail Colorado so I really don't have an excuse not to go due to the distance. For anyone that's been to one, are they fun? As much fun as I had while there, I didn't keep in touch with anyone...except for a quick ski trip in Tahoe many years ago.

Some of the excuses I've seen for not going:

-presenting a paper at an international scientific conference in Finland
-senior attorney at a company is defending a case and can't attend

WTF would I say? ...Can't make it! Beta testing Vanguard! Damn I love my job! Tons of vacation and no responsibilities that I can't delegate!

Anyone have positive or negative experiences from one of these things? I'd be just looking to have a beer (or wine!) and some laughs with old friends. I don't want some hug-fest and sharing of baby pictures!

I cannot attend due to my house arrest. The ankle bracelet will explode if I leave my property.

Don't respond at all.

I didn't attend my 5yr or 10yr reunions and have no intentions of attending any in the future.

I went to my 10 year, it was fun... we mostly just hung out and discussed what we were doing now and some of the fun times we had back then. I would go, if you aren't having fun just go skiing instead, pickup some chicks and make you're own fun :) Never hurts to at least try...

I suppose it probably depends on your high school experience. I really enjoyed high school and was at least kind of friends with just about everyone in my class, so I'd have a good time getting together and having a few drinks with those people I haven't seen in a long time. I was kind of disappointed when no one ever planned our 10 year, I would have gone in a heartbeat.

If you didn't have a good time in HS, I can probably understand not wanting to go.

/edit: Hell, you went to a Fan Faire, I don't think it really holds the "potential disappointment" that an FF could be. Not that I ever found FF to be disappointing, I was just worried that it could be before I went. Same as you're probably thinking about your reunion.

Really sounds as if there's more doing then just a simple party which could be fun. For instance, I went to a prep school so reunions are every year. They just set up in the middle of campus for an all weekend long gathering. I always found it to be a good networking opportunity as well as a chance to play a round of golf on our course. So if it's more than just a simple party one evening, I'd go.

I didn't go to my 10-year HS reunion and kind of regret it. Though I wasn't particularly social, I am curious. And had been to school with a lot of those people since kindergarten.

I later heard that it had been a ton of fun. One old high school friend tried to drunk dial me... but evidentally she kept calling the wrong number :P

So why not go, you might have a good time.

I went to my ten year. I got to catch up with some old friends, give the Nelson 'Ha-Ha' to a couple of my ex-girlfriends, and had the opportunity to network with the few cool folks who had the balls to leave town and make good. I wouldn't go back for another reunion, unless it was in another location... like Vail. Even if the people suck, and I'm sure some of them will (some people never change), you can always get in some great skiing. I was out at Winter Park last weekend, and they had about 4+ feet of snow already. Mary Jane wasn't open, but there were about 10 lifts and even a few black diamonds open. Vail is an incredible place. Sounds like a great excuse to make some turns.

High School Reunions allow you to do one thing.
One more attempt to bang that hot chic that you didn't get too in HS (provided she is still hot)
Otherwise, unless you need your ego stroked. F them.

I have no intention of ever going to a fucking reunion. I used the old "no vacation time" lie back in 2002. But then again, I went to public school.

You sissy prep school kids are supposed to fucking love shit like this.

We haven't had a high school one but we had one for 9th grade (when we are 16) and it was TONS of fun. Of course, it was also a total of 60 kids in the classes and we all were a pretty tight knit group of friends who still keep more or less in touch with eachother. I say go, if it isn't fun go skiing :)

I went to my 10th and 20th and had a blast. It's great/shocking to see how people turned out, like the All-State QB and his buddies that are now all bald, fat, bitter and twice divorced, and the cute girls that became gorgeous women and were a blast to catch up with :D

25th coming up a year from now!

Yeh i missed mine as well, but really the only reason to go would have been the ego stroking... I was a short little dorky kid in HS, now well, you know, chicks dig me.

I'm not talking about Voro here, but Sylvus mentioned EQ FFs and some of the people commenting on this thread lacked the social skills or self esteem to even attend an EQ gathering in a party town like Vegas with people they were currently interacting with.

My initial inquiry here wasn't about insecurity, it was about how fun reunions are. I'm not big on any organized events like weddings, office holiday parties, etc. but having not experienced a reunion type event in the past, was genuinely curious as to how other's turned out to be on the fun meter.

The next reunion after this is already being planned and is going to be back in Lugano, Switzerland where we actually went to school. I think that one will be a little more memorable as I'd guess most high school reunions are normally held near the original location. We could then walk through the campus and hit a few of the local bars we threw up in...er grew up in. Thanks for the input!

My 25th high school reunion is coming up sometime this year, and I am struggling with the same question. To be honest, there are maybe 4 or 5 people at most that I'd really love to see, and perhaps another 4 or 5 on top of that I'd like to see (class of, oh, about 250). And because the odds were never good that the one's I'd want to see would even attend on of these shin-digs, it's the main reason I have never attended one before. But at 25 years, you've got to figure the odds are better, and the overwhelming curiousity to see how gray, fat, and bald my old classmates has gotten has me tempted.

But I just don't know - I probably will still skip it again.
