I saw it lastnight too. Although, to answer the mockings of why a grown man goes to the midnight showing, I counter with this revalation: there are less age 5 to 15 year olds in the theatre at that hour on a school night...making for a much better movie going experience.

I liked it. I do agree that with an extra half an hour of content...it would have been the best of the 4.

They do try to keep it kid friendly though (even with the PG13 rating) because you will notice a trend in the movie. After something dark and sinister (scary), comedy is interjected immediatly after to lighten the mood....which kind of throws off the pace of the film...but nothing too serious.

This new director (?) did a great job. He kept all the new and fun aspects that were created in the 3rd movie's set, and added what needed to be added for this movie.

How many old men were there whacking off to Emma Watson?

To all the men who get coerced into going to this movie by their women:

Don't do it.

No amount of pussy in the world is worth sitting through this piece of shit movie. No matter how desperate for the cooch you are, do not fucking waste cash on this shitty movie. In my numbing desperation to retain my sanity while sitting through this plotless three hour shitfest, I wasn't really sure if it was as bad as my shit sensors were indicating. When I noticed my girlfriend, the same one who made me go to this fucking soul sucking pile of dogshit, checking the time, I knew it was pretty fucking bad.

How bad was this movie, do you ask?

Well, I consider myself somewhat of an authority on bad movies, having sat through Congo, Leonard Part 6, The Kid with Green Hair, Catwoman, League of Extraordinary Gentleman, Water World, Santa Clause vs the Martians, Ishtar, and just about every other bad movie you can think of. What separates the merely shitty movies, like Be Cool, and the hall of fame shitfests, such as Catwoman, is a simple litmus test I use called the cheese grater test. If, given the choice, I would rather watch gay porn for the same period of time than see the movie again, it has just crossed the Spanglesh threshold of really bad movie. If I would rather rub my bare ball sack against a cheese grater than sit through the same period of time as the movie, it has achieved Plan 9 status as a legendarily bad movie. Let me say that at about the point where the school dance suddenly featured a fucking goth band, the cheese grater was looking mighty tempting. When, upon seeing the "Wiz" cup, the first words out of my girlfriends mouth were "Do they pee in that?", and it was the funniest thing about the movie, and unintentional, I knew I was witnessing the worst movie of the year.

Fuck this Archie Comics meets Dungeons and Dragons lame ass fucking movie and all the costumed 30 year old virgins I had to stand in line behind to wait for the privelage of being subjected to this overdone special effects no plot phoning it in piece of shit. Seriously. Where was the fucking plot of this movie? How did that nappy tooth english bitch sell so many books when its always the fucking teacher who is the bad guy in every single mother fucking book? Why does no one think twice about tossing four kids in a big pit with dragons, then when one of them actually fucking bites it his dad does an Episode 3 Darth Vader impression and everyone is upset? What the fuck was up with the Russion Gymastics team and the french airline stewardess school showing up halfway through the movie? Could this movie have had any more gay overtones between Harry and his Danny Boneduce hits puberty roomate? The fact that christians object to this movie almost makes me want to convert.

God damn that movie sucked ass. For all the guys who already sat through this in order to obtain pussy, demand a gulp and a smile, because you have surely earned it.

Jice what did you think of the previous Harry Potter movies? Is this review coming from someone who enjoyed the previous three films and was dissapointed by the fourth installment or is it coming from someone has despised the Harry Potter hype from the beginning- through the books and movies, and forced himself to see this one?

I have a pretty nuetral attitide towards it (or did) leading into this movie. The first two movies were well made, but not what I would consider must have movies (like say, lord of the rings or something). I saw both and didn't feel as though it was a waste of my time to watch them, though I have no urge to see them again and no compulsion to see them in the theatre.

This movie had, basically, zero plot behind slight rehash of the "the dark arts instructor is the bad guy and Harry has to do some gay contest at the school" that has been recycled in both previous movies (and will be in the next one, if it follows the books), but the second movie had something resembling a twist and Gary Oldman to carry it. This movie had..... french girls in airline stewardess outfits for the teenage boys, Hermine in a dress for the pedophiles from FOH SS forums, and umm gay angst between Harry and the Carrot Top and Shaggy's love child kid? It made SW Ep3 seem like a masterpiece of plot, dialog, and cinema pacing.

So basically, first two movies I rate above average, so I don't feel I came into seeing it with any prior prejudices (beyond bowing down to the camel toed beast and agreeing to go see it in the first place).

Personally I have alraedy seen this twice. My wife and I went Friday and I took my mother this afternoon.

While they did skip through 7 chapters in the first 10 mintues I thought it was the best of the 4 and I've seen them all toooooo many times to count because my son loves them. He won't be seeing this one for a couple of years due to some of the more frightening scenes, however as all of those come at the end of the movie a DVD viewing should be ok when it comes out.

In regards to Jice's post I have no idea what crack he is smoking this week as we usually agree on most topics :P . Please note that it's not always the teacher. It was in the first but in this one it was someone acting as a teacher, if you haven't read the books it maybe a little difficult to grasp that so late in the evening. Personally I agree with the French outfits, they do look like stewardess uniforms and it never mentions or explains, except for the guys being possibly horney, as to why they would be so infactuated with Fleur.

Anyway, I'm going to just assume that you haven't read the book Jice. If I had not, I probably wouldn't have liked it much either. My mother did but that is because she asked me 10 million questions during the movie...

Bottom line for me is that if you have read the books you will feel rushed and disappointed at some of the changes but will love the movie in general as it sticks to the point and gets the main objective accomplished whic isn't "Harry vs Bad Teacher" but Voldermort's return.

The best out of all 4. The movie has received great reviews. If you liked previoius Potter movies go see this one. It has a darker and much more adult theme to it.

I have no idea what Jice is smoking on this. By the way Jice did you not see the first or second movie? You refer to viewing only 2 of 3 previous movies more then once, and you misquoted which of the previous movies Gary Oldman was in.

Your review of the movie is 10 times worse then your opinion of it. If your going to bash a movie in such a way, at least have your facts straight and view all the previous films, ffs. Put some spoiler tags on your shit too. You guys gave away the ending.

Of all the films to date this one most requires you to have read the book.

I liked the good bits, and there were quite a few, but I didn't like the way it was put together at all. Some of the plotlines were so garbled and hurried they would have been better served by being removed.

But there was plenty to like if you're a potter fan. It's not a patch on Azkaban, but it was always going to be a difficult movie given the size of the book it's trying to cover.

I didn't see Azkaban, but I had the plot explained to me while waiting in line for this one. I guess the best comparisson I can give is that this movie was like the movie adaptation of Dune. It tried to cover too much shit and you couldn't really get interested in anyone because most of the movie felt like a washed up english actor cameo fest. When the new character (who you know is the villian, again) is the most interesting guy to watch in the movie, you know the movie is going downhill fast. Reading the book should not be a prerequisite for seeing a movie and Dune sucked just as bad as this one for the same reason (mind you, I have read all the Dune books), but this one had the added displeasure of making you sit through some quasi homo 90210 dance thing complete with emo/goth band. Oh, and once again the teacher, someone pretending to be the teacher, or some guy in the faculty wearing black, was the bad guy.... again.

I think this is a case of the writer getting in the way of making a descent movie. If they had trimmed out all the prom night at ridgemont high bullshit and Hermine getting jealous of the gay love between Harry and Carrot Top, this movie would not sucked as nearly as much. A lot more detail in the whole graveyard encounter and some actual confrontation there and the movie would have crossed back into the range of being good. The entire superbowl of witches thing just to explain the concept of a port key ran more than a little too long as well. I also couldn't help but be annoyed at how Harry conveniently forgot to tell Dumbledore that the new hitler aryan youth kid's father and mother were working for Lord English Patient. These are just the things off the top of my head that pissed me off; there are plenty more that someone more familiar with the books was pointing out after we saw it. The writer needs to let the movie people make a movie and not try and cram all of the extranious bullshit that is not relavent to the main plot into it, or else every future movie in the series is going to have the same problems. The fact that they have changed directors twice in four movies is probably pretty indicative of what a control freak Rowlings is on these movies' development. Also, it would probably be a good idea to skip ahead a few books or at least have the actor playing Harry shave his nuckle hair off before claiming he is 14....

I realize the Potter Fanbois are going to make this flaming turd a number one movie this year, but the fact is it sucked, even worse than episode three, you are all just in denial. I am a Star Trek Fanboi and you won't see me defending 5, 7, 9, and 10, despite the fact that I saw all of them multiple times. If you want to spend money to watch a bunch of special effects tied together by a non existant plot with no direction, then thats your business, but you are lying out of your ass if you say this was the best of the four movies. Without even seeing the third, I can confidentlyu say that this is the worst.

See I knew we agreed on something! I'm in complete agreement on the Star Trek and Dune movies, even though I saw them multiple times.

If they had about another 30 minutes, which IMHO they should have added, it would be a much better movie and far and above better for those who haven't read the books.
[Show]
The skipping of the Vela part at the World Cup was a bad choice, hence the focus on Fleur's ass rather than her GM being a Vela.

The non-torturing of muggles by the Death Eater and instead having them attach the camp was not good.

The total absense of House elfs was a bad choice, leave out SPEW, I'm ok with that but leaving out Winky and adding in Crouch's son in the dream was a mistake, made the movie a dead give away.

The snake like tongue stuff to was pretty stupid.

Leaving out how Voldermort became that child looking thing, ie Bertha if I remember correctly, was also a bad movie.
After getting through the homoerotic moments in RotK they Harry / Ron stuff didn't even phase me and personally I like the way they did the yule ball as well as the Weird Sisters.

Cheers!

Jice, you are full of shit. I'm no fanboi, nor have I read the books, but your reviews here? Bull.
Let me say that at about the point where the school dance suddenly featured a fucking goth band, the cheese grater was looking mighty tempting.
I'm sorry, I was unaware that any band that wears black and has a vocalist with a deep voice was classified as goth. Did you even listen to the music playing? It had more pop sound to it than anything else.
When, upon seeing the "Wiz" cup, the first words out of my girlfriends mouth were "Do they pee in that?", and it was the funniest thing about the movie, and unintentional, I knew I was witnessing the worst movie of the year.
Directly from imdb.com: Genre: Adventure / Fantasy / Mystery / Thriller
(Notice what's missing? COMEDY. The HP series isn't a comedy. Therefore, funny isn't a requirement.)
Seriously. Where was the fucking plot of this movie?
Oh, you know, just the whole plot that's been going on for 3 books/movies thus far. The story sort of connects, like sequels! Imagine that. While you may have considered the competition pointless, it was still integral to the development of other characters.
What the fuck was up with the Russion Gymastics team and the french airline stewardess school showing up halfway through the movie?
I was unaware movies weren't allowed to introduce characters after the first 10 minutes. Thanks for filling me in.
Could this movie have had any more gay overtones between Harry and his Danny Boneduce hits puberty roomate?
Homophobe? I didn't even see a single hint of homosexuality. Please clarify.
I think this is a case of the writer getting in the way of making a descent movie.
...
The writer needs to let the movie people make a movie and not try and cram all of the extranious bullshit that is not relavent to the main plot into it, or else every future movie in the series is going to have the same problems. Because you were there during the filming right? Totally her fault, without a doubt. And what's this shit about 'skipping ahead a few books' ?? The kid's only 16, he can pass for 14 no problem. Television has gone much further, like 25 year olds pretending to be 16. Thankfully they're keeping the same cast for at least the 5th movie, because I GUARANTEE that the series would take a serious hit in the shitty direction if they switched each of the younger main characters out.
A lot more detail in the whole graveyard encounter and some actual confrontation there and the movie would have crossed back into the range of being good.
Detail? Like what? What confrontation wasn't there? The entire scene exposed a hell of a lot of story.
[Show]
The first true introduction of Voldemort, the entire re-creation of Voldemort, his followers, the involvement between the kid's father and Voldemort. Exposing how Harry was truly saved (via Mother), followed by a duel between Harry and Voldemort, the involvement of his parents during the connection of the wands. What more could there really have been beyond explanation of Voldemort's current body phase pre being made?
I enjoyed this movie. I don't think it was the best, but I definitely don't think it was the worst, especially in comparison to the second one. The Weasly sister destroyed that one for me. Poor acting combined with whining pathetic character. Thankfully, she's had a much lesser role in the last two films.

I would rank them from best to worst: 3, 1, 4, 2, with 3 and 1 realistically being a tie. 1 is really only up there because it was the first time we all experienced life at Hogwarts. I'm a fan of the darker themes in this series, and that's why I loved the third.

Anyway, my point is: Jice is full of shit.

I couldn't watch it straight through but finished it.

It wasn't as bad as Jice made it out to be. It could have been about 40 minutes shorter because I didn't know what was going on and the first 40 minutes of the movie didn't help clear anything up.

The goth band was totally out of place.

Having not read the books...who was the oriental chick that Potter was eyeing? It made no sense within the context of the movie without having read the books.

It felt like I was watching the middle of a movie..no strong beginning or end.

It was the worst of the four Potter movies but not an outright bad movie.

As a Potter movie: 5/10
As a movie that stands on its own: 3/10

Most importantly...why are these girls wearing rubbers on their heads?

Better than the 3rd movie, but I still think the first two were much more enjoyable.
[Show]
The Barty Crouch Jr. as Mad-Eye thing was handled poorly. In the book it was a nicely setup twist when he was revealed, but in the movie Mad-Eye was set up as a bad guy from the get go and never really showed a good side. I've seen better plot twists on Scooby Doo

I don't understand the complaints about the plot. If you paid attention to the movie, the plot was pretty well laid out.
[Show]
The two schools came in for the Triwizard Tournmant. In the last task, the cup was a portkey that took the two to the graveyard outside the Riddle house.

That's the plot. You might understand it better if you had read the book, but I don't see how you don't get it just be watching the movie.

This movie has divided the Harry Potter fans more than any other film. People seem to have strong opinions either one way or the other. I've never read the books but enjoyed the movies for what they are. I will be going into this movie a bit more skeptical than usual due to the fan rants and such. I'm sure I'll enjoy it, but we'll see how it compares to the others, which I rank all 3 equally as 7.5 out of 10.

I thought this was the best of the 4 movies. I think there are some things they should have added 10 minutes to the film and explained (like the vila and how Crouch Jr got out of prison), but nothing that really changed the story itself.

They were thinking about splitting this book into two movies, but went against it. I don't see how they do the next two books without splitting them up into two movies each.

The only thing that can redeem this series is full frontal Emma Watson in part five.

This isn't unique to the Harry Potter movies, but the "newness" factor has worn off. The first two movies were intresting in that they introduced the characters and fantasy setting. There's nothing really new in the fourth movie and all we're left with is this thrown together triwizard thing and an old villain we saw in the third movie.

Another problem is that Harry's friends betray him. What's with his best friend getting all snotty over the selection process. He's HARRY (fucking)POTTER...the most sucked up to wizard alive. By now, his friends should know that every out of the ordinary thing is going to happen to Harry.

Hermione sticks with Harry most of the way...although she may be just trying to get with Potter to breed some of that muggle blood out of the next generation.

Along with the lost "newness" of the movie, the interaction between the main characters seemed lost as well. The new characters introduced were thrown in without a background story so it's hard to really care what happens to them and the old relationships didn't really develop. Some of the older characters looked like they were thrown into the movie due to contracts or something and had no use in the film whatsoever like Percy Weasley and those fruity twins.

Maybe spoilers below.. Proceed at your own risk.

Finally saw it.. I thought it was decent. I'd probably give it a 7/10.

However, a few things did bother me. The ones I can remember:

As someone else mentioned.. I don't know why everyone was so shocked when the kid at the end died. I mean.. The first challenge or whatever was dragons. And not the cuddly kind. If they would have failed I'm sure they would have been a snack then.

The second challenge.. What the fuck was with that? Innocent people were kidnapped and stuck in the lake. After one hour what would have happened, would they have died? It was just a game and they were innocent bystanders!
Having not read the books...who was the oriental chick that Potter was eyeing? It made no sense within the context of the movie without having read the books.
Sure it did.. It was someone who caught his eye while on the train. I don't see what didn't make sense about it. Then when he finally got the courage to ask she had already been asked to the ball by someone else.

They left way too much stuff out. I hope they don't leave too much out on the next film. The Order of the Phoenix.
