Indigo Prophecy/Fahrenheit

Post by Dregor Thule »

Anyone played this one? Was recently released in NA under the title Indigo Prophecy, but has been out in Europe for awhile now as Fahrenheit (don't ask me why the name change). It's a mystery/adventure game, reminds me a lot of the goold old Sierra games. More of an interactive movie, they even have "Start new movie" when you start the game. Pretty simple interface, move the mouse in certain motions to interact with objects, various hand-eye coordination puzzles. It's got a pretty solid story so far, and the voice acting is way above average. The graphics are good, not Half-life 2 good, but definitely pleasing enough to look at.

One thing tho.. the NA release of it had some content cut... a little digital T and A didn't make it overseas. "Can't have the American consumer seeing extremely mild nudity, oh no! Now lets get back to the whole ritual stabbing thing."

Anyway, I recommend checking this one out if you're looking for a good story out of a game. And if you want to play the game in its uncut entirety, well you may want to look into other methods of obtaining it.

I've been reading some nice reviews on this one. Seems to be a more "artsy" game (and I mean that in a good way), same as how I would consider Shadow of the Colossus to be artsy. I suppose I'll have to buy this one, too. *sigh*

I finished this game a while ago.

And i would actually rate it as a decent game after finishing it. When i were 50% through, i considered buying it, after finishing it i might buy it if i see it cheap.

There are some puzzle elements to the game, but since you got on inventory, its just about picking up item XXX, and if you can use it somewhere, a new icon show up to use it there.
The games action elements are mostly rythm games, some of them fairly long, and even on the easiest settings they can prove quite a challenge, since you have to start over each time, and dont have unlimited lives. Some of them come in some WIERD places, like during a talk only cutscene where it make no sense, and during a interview with the police, you start seeing some wierd bugs, and if you react on them by playing the game, the police get more suspicious of you. Make absolutely no sense that the best ingame way to handle that situation are by NOT doing anything.

The story are great for most of the game, feels really intense to both be trying to evade the police, and to play the police trying to hunt you down.
For example RIGHT at the start, you kill a guy in some diners bathroom while in some sort of trance, then wake up and realise what you have done.
You can then decide how to handle it. Theres a police guy sitting in the diner, and you can see how he is reacting, and going towards the toilet. So how do you handle it. Hide the body, wash away the worst of the blood on the floor, hide the knife, wash your bloody hands, and run away, or just try to plain run away, or maybe play it totally cool, washing your hands only, going out and finishing your dinner, paying like a normal customer, then take a taxi home?. All up to you.

But around 80% through, the game basically fucks up. It goes from being a story about ritual killings, mayans and police work, to involve a worldwide conspiracy and something from either outer space or another dimension. Characters who earlier behaved rationally throw every caution to the wind and believe everything with no proof.
Basically the same feelling you had if you played Phantasmagoria 2, and played it all the way to the end and got into the alien dimension thingy. And you can use the same fix for it. Play the game 80% done, then put it down and pretend you finished it. You will be happier doing so.

But its not a game i would have missed playing, im just sad they fucked up the end part of it.

Heh, well finished it. Short game! But still, good story. The last part wasn't as horrible as you made it out to be, but yeah, it sorta took a few left turns. It was still pretty easy to follow tho.

I don't know if I'd recommend buying this. It's definitely entertaining, but it's short. There's some replayability since it's a bit of a choose your own adventure type deal, but I imagine it's not hugely different.
