Ok, I dont ask too many questions here because I like to make myself think I can handle most tech crap on my own (and normally I can)... But the one thing I've never been able to figure out is friggen BTs..To skip past all the normal BS my downloads are rediculously slow.. Not because there aren't enough seeders and too many leechers but because of my router's firewall.. I'm trying to figure out what ports I need to foward to this system from my main in order to get BitLord or BitTornado to run properly.. Winnow I know you're an expert at this so mind tossing me some info? I'm on a Linksys 54G wireless router..

1) I'd recommend Azureus - I haven't used BitLord but I know Azureus kicks ass.

2) You can use any port with azureus, as long as you set it within the program (very easy) and open it on your router. It only requires one open port for all your torrents, whereas many of the lesser clients require multiple ports for multiple torrents.

3) If you choose not to use Azureus, the default ports you'll want to open are 6881-6999.

Don't disable the firewall

Just open specific ports.

If you're using a linksys, it's pretty easy. Let me dig up a guide.

Try using that, but using the correct ports.

So instead of 6112-6112, do 6881-6999.

I'm a longtime user of Azureus and it's a bloated memory hogging java piece of shit. The best thing for you ought to be µtorrent - http://www.utorrent.com. It's got the smallest footprint of any bittorrent application I've used.

Dont forget that BT'ing has a tit-for-tat requirement.

If you are not uploading, then your download speed will be horrendouslyl slow too, because BT does not reward leechers!!! Seed, or feel the wrath of the swarm!!!!

BitTorrent has the slider bar at the top for upload speed...I'm betting other programs also have a similar thing. I would move that slider up as far as you can get away with your ISP. Mine somehow shuts down my torrents if I'm uploading too much.

Tried the BitTorrent client, tried BitComent, but I happen to like µtorrent better. Favorite feature is the ability to put the tool on a limit schedule. During the day I cap my outbound so I don't destroy my ability to remote in to work. At night, no limits. Very sweet!

I like uTorrent as well. It's similar to Azereus but not written in java so it's smaller and also much less demanding on your system.
