Much wailing and gnashing of teeth
If the jackholes who think that the game as it was is "innovative and advanced" hate the change, then I am all for it. No more unbeatable templates, no more grinding "pistol exp," and yes, you can start from scratch as a Jedi.

I've always put more of the blame on Raph "Players create content" Koster than on SOE for this turkey. Looks like they finally realized that games without content are boring.

Yep. Now it is going to be a starting profession too!!kyoukan wrote:finally, everquest in space.
putting in jedi at all was the biggest mistake they ever made. once that was implemented the game turned into a total shitfest.
What kept me in the game for so long is crafting. It is a lot more then just clicking shit together. That and space was what made the game fun. Fuck the ground game.
I was on the way out, my accounts were due to expire on the 6th. Guess I will hang around for another month to check out the new changes. Maybe I will meet my goal of 500M credits!!

FYI, there's a lot of information on this in the forums of f13.net. Apparently those guys went to Austin to play a test version of this so they have some decent insight. According to them, the FPSlike interface is going in within the next two weeks, but the collision detection is going to take them 6 months to code because they have to touch every graphical data object in the game.
Oh, my God; I care so little, I almost passed out.

My lord, I have never seen anything as bad as these changes. I understand that they are still testing things, but the overall implementation they have used for combat (so far) is pure shit.
To attack something you have to point a really small + at an npc until it turns red. Then you hold the left mouse button down and keep it red as the npc moves around. This might not be too bad on...well, rancors krayts etc., but humanoids are far too small to do this for too long without developing a nasty headache.
It's too bad that my SWG, Planetside, EQ, and EQ2 accounts are tied together. I have to get away from this steaming pile...

They are now offering a free 10 day trial to check out SWG with the new changes added. (http://www.starwarsgalaxiesonline.com/ content/starwarsgalaxies-freetrial.php)
After fooling around on this for a few minutes I am immediately left thinking how infinetly better this is compared to what I remember of the game. Granted, the free '10 day trial' is a little misleading, as it appears you only have access to the opening tutorial sequence, but it gives you a great feeling for the combat and quest changes and the new tutorial has much more content then the original.
I never played SWG for any extended period of time, so my knowledge of the original game is fairly limited - but that is primarly due to the first 10 levels being so jumbled and confusing I had no desire to delve further into the game. That being said, the changes they have made to the game make it much easier for someone to jump right in, and so far I am really enjoying the new combat. I am sure as was posted above that it could get to be a pain having to manually aim over long distances or on bad pathing creatures, but so far I was having a blast.
Is anyone still playing SWG after these changes have been added? I am curious if the experience in the tutorial is remotely close to the actual game experience post-tutorial. All in all, I am pretty interested in checking this out, which is a far cry from my initial reaction to logging into SWG for the first couple of times.
Also, no CC is needed to sign up for the free trial, and the DL and patch took me < 1 hour. Check it out!

The only part of the game that is finished is the tutorial. Each and every class has several game breaking things wrong with them that once you reach that point all you can do is sit and wait for days/weeks until the devs get to fixing that part of the game.Desolet wrote: Is anyone still playing SWG after these changes have been added? One good example is the Trader class has an issue where they hit a specific skill level and they can no longer advance in the game. This bug keeps them from gaining exp in game thus bringing them to a complete halt.
Another issue, all weapons do the same damage depending on your level, if I am level 90 with a starter pistol it does the same damage as the very best crafted/quested weapon.
Jedi class now can be beaten by anyone with ranged abilities. A single level 80 medic can kill as many as 4 or 5 level 90 Jedi at the same time with little effort. Also Jedi do not get any armor of any sort, thus if you go AFK a level 1 Durni can kill you in about 30 seconds.
Commando weapons were removed from the game and will come back at a date to be determined.
Smallest ammount of lag prevents you from targeting your enemy, thus he with the best connection will always win in PVP (unless your a Jedi then you will die anyway).
Customer service in this game uses a diffrent model then EQ did, my open tickets would go unanswered for days to weeks only to have them closed with resolutions that had nothing to do with the issues. Back in the day when the customer HAD to close the ticket not the support person I was told if I didnt close the ticket the CSR would ban me from the game for harrasment, even tho he did not help me.
And many many more issues. The devs say they will systematically fix all of these issues over time, which is big words for these guys, SWG still has many many bugs and exploits left in the game from days of beta testing 3 years ago. Diffrence now is Lucas has had it with the failure of the game and gave them time to turn it around or turn it off. My advise is stay away, this game is not even in a place it should be beta tested much less live.

They just redid the whole damn thing.Drinsic Darkwood wrote:As long as this game has been out, how in the holy fuck do game-crippling problems as serious as that still exist?
I downloaded the trial, and while it was nice to actually use a blaster and fly in the millineum falcon, I found it pretty 'meh' overall. Just like before, it's pretty underwhelming other than the Diablo 2-esque UI.

I'm well aware it was "redone"; I read the thread. The question I guess I should ask is... did they not test it at all? Was there no testing for an entire reworking for the game? If so, how in the fuck do things such as:
... manage to slip through when implemented? I'll admit I've only touched SWG once and for no longer than 10 minutes, but those sorts of issues sound unbelievable. One good example is the Trader class has an issue where they hit a specific skill level and they can no longer advance in the game. Do unto others what has been done to you.

If by "slipping through" you mean go unnoticed....It was noticed by the players. If you mean it from a designer's QA standpoint, they *should* have noticed. They had a date set for the changes to go live no matter what. They (the actual coders) did not get to spend the necessary time to fix what they had to. There was WAY too much to change to have it sufficiently tested before 11/15.
If they would have announced it when the first CU was released, it might have resulted in a more sound game. Waiting as long as they did to really have it tested is what screwed the game.

here is a link to the trader issue, notice the Dev reply "looking into it" which is the normal response..
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/boar ... 750#M11750
Here is a link of the devs stating 3 weeks after they pushed the game live they are STARTING development of the weapons that commandos use AKA Heavy Weapons
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/boar ... 3718#M3718
And here is the "were almost done developing the armor for Jedi" post, notice over 2 weeks after the new game went live..
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/boar ... ing&page=1
The real bitch of the thing was the new expansion came, they billed all the pre-orders then 4 days later they anounced the NGE (New Game Experience). After much out cry they refunded anyone that asked for it but had the community not put up a fight they may not have refunded everyones money that left because of the NGE.
All in all it was a fucked up deal, SOE treated its customers like dirt to gain diffrent customers, problem with that is the 12 to 18 year old demographic they are after doesnt give two shits about Star Wars, and the 24 to 35 that did play it wont go back.
