I just tried to watch this for the first time. I wanted to turn it off after 5 mins, but I thought I should stick it out and see if it got better. 15 mins later I turned it off and deleted it form TIVO. Absolutely nothing of interest in this movie at all.

You have to have a grasp of subtle humor to enjoy this movie.
War is an option whose time has passed. Peace is the only option for the future. At present we occupy a treacherous no-man's-land between peace and war, a time of growing fear that our military might has expanded beyond our capacity to control it and our political differences widened beyond our ability to bridge them. . . .

Short of changing human nature, therefore, the only way to achieve a practical, livable peace in a world of competing nations is to take the profit out of war.
--RICHARD M. NIXON, "REAL PEACE" (1983)

"Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired, represents, in the final analysis, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its laborers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children."

I thought it was funny and has some great lines, but not something I'd go out and buy. I could relate not to the characters directly, but how they reminded me of a lot of people I knew in high school (especially people from my jazz band class).

There's no doubt it's an odd movie to get a handle on but in the end I enjoyed it more the second time I saw it more than the first.

It's over dramatized nerdiness which takes some getting used to. My initial 57/100 is too low for this movie but it took a second viewing to appreciate more of the humor.

If that doesn't prove this fine piece of filmmaking's worth right there, then nothing will.

absurdist comedy is hard to do. I think that wes anderson and owen wilson (as a writing duo) are the only western filmmakers around doing this kind of thing. napoleon dynamite was a great attempt by a new guy. if he keeps going down this road then he will probably do better next time. ND was a bit over the top to really consider it a classic in it's genre.

Hmm... are you sure you're qualified to comment on the other 67 minutes of the movie that you didnt' see?

I disagree with your overall assessment of the movie, it was quirky, humorous and overall entertaining. I also think that millions of people who have turned this into the biggest cult hit in recent memory would also disagree with you, but then again we're probably just all bitter.

Just to recap, you couldn't even give an interesting and original idea 15 minutes of your time, yet you're a big fan of a band whose five albums each sound more alike than each of their predecessors and many reviews have trouble discerning which songs come from which albums. That sounds about right.

Sorry Sylvus, but I don't feel the way you think I do. I understand it is a big cult classic. That is what drove me to see it. I also fully understand that not everyone can like everything nor dislike everything. That is the great thing about haivng so many choices, because therre are so many different likes and dislikes in movies, etc.

I couldn't find the funny in this movie. Way too slow and unfunny for me. Very similar to Stella on Comedy Central. Somehow what they are doing is supposed to be funny, but I'm not seeing it.

Lately the funny things I have seen wre the HBO One Night Stands by Jim Norton and Bill Burr. Also Dane Cooks new Album was funny as hell. To me that's comedy.

ND got better and better for me with repeat viewings, lots of little jewels in there.

Just like with Sling Blade, it gets funnier with each viewing.

I think I've watched it three or four times. Good movie but I can see why some people wouldn't like it.

As far as the DVD goes the commentary could have been a lot better.

Watch the first 30 minutes of it the other day. Didnt laugh once, and im a fan of most types of comedy. Sorry, but if you need to be bored for the first half hour of a movie to really enjoy it than thats something wrong with the movie.

Some people get a kick out of watching stupid people or people being stupid. I'm not one of them. I guess that's why I find Will Ferrell to be such an idiot and this movie to be a waste of time.

Of course, there's still people that think Andy Kaufman was a genious.

Andy Kaufman and Woody Allen are both horrible for different reasons.

It's been said several times that this movie has a lot going on and takes some brain power and a few viewings to get most of it. I'm not surprised at the negative comments by particular people.

And no, Woody Allens sucks no matter how many times you watch his movies.
