YEAH FLORIDA REALLY STOMPED ALABAMA'S ASS!

ahem...
Alabama Crimson Tide (15) slaugthered the Florida Gators (5) with a score of 31-3. The only two factors that prevented this from being a perfect win were the 3 point field goal and the injury of Alabama's main wide reciever Prothro with a broken ankle.

Needless to say Masteen,...

It was reported in Tuscaloosa's Sunday edition that it's actually a broken leg. They also had a still shot of his foot bent entirely the wrong fucking way. I bet it's online somewhere..

He was also the return guy, kick offs and punts. Fortunately, we're deepest at the wide-out position. Unlike last year when the entire god damn backfield went down!

I expected Alabama to be an improved team this year, but they've really suprised me. Saturday's game was just impressive. Unfortunately, my beloved Huskers haven't quite pulled it together yet like Bama (they're getting there, slowly, though).

The Gators looked like shit, and Alabama played the game of their lives. Kudos for that win.

Unfortunately, Prothro paid the price for Shula's stupidity, just like Brittle Croyle did in a similar blowout last season. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it.

I have a feeling we might be seeing each other in Atlanta, and good luck without your 2 TD, 134 yard man.

I'm also quite sure that every recruiter in the SEC is making a tape of that play to show to all the recruits that get poached from your wonderful shithole. Mike just made everyone's job a whole lot easier. Thanks!

While I'm ok placing the blame on Shula for Brodie's injury last year(we were beating the piss out of some other school, worse than florida. by far,) I can't really go with it on this one.

How many times do you hear that a team needs to drop a lot of points around an opponent to make a 'statement' in the national scene? USC put 63 I think on Arkansas before pulling their starters. The only reason no one bitched is because it's USC, and no one got injured. Imagine if Leinart had torn his rotator cup on his 4th td pass in the 3rd quarter!

If Prothro makes that catch it's 38-3 and Shula would probably continue piling on the points. His fans and his team would've loved it, and it would've made Alabama look that much better.

I also don't recall how often Florida fans bitched and screamed about Spurrier dropping an unnecessary 30+ on his opponents with starters!

Well allow me to retort!

No, Prothro probably wanted to play. I'm sure he would also like to play in the SEC Championship if y'all make it there, but that's sure not gonna happen now, is it? It's the coach's job to look out for the welfare of his team and his players for the entire season. This kid's season is definitely over, and his career just might be, too.

You have big fucking balls comparing yourselves to USC. You've won exactly ONE big game in Shula's career. They've won NATIONAL TITLES. Notice the plural.

I'm sure the fans and the players would have loved to blow out Florida by even more, but, again, it's not the coach's job to make the players and fans happy. It's his job to win games, now and in the future. The future just got a lot tougher.

You brought up Spurrier, so let's talk about him. Wanna know why he never saw a drop off in his receiver production no matter what? Because he played the scrubs early and often. It's not his fault that teams starting defenses couldn't stop his second stringers. Here's another leet seekrit: that's also a great way to get great players to come even when you are constantly stocked with talent.

You can also send the receivers who are "so-so" to a few Jr colleges in Kansas to work on grades and skills before they step into the "big show." Florida and Florida State both did this at the school I went to during the early 90's. I don't know if they still do.

How late in the game (time not score) did the injury happen? With the score what it was in the final, I probably wouldn't have pulled the starters if it was still early in the 3rd, but if we were 5min or so into the 4th I would have them cooling off for the next game.

IMO Shula should have taken Prothro out before that injury happened. He wasn't needed and I don't care what benefits there may have been for keeping him in. It's just not worth the risk. And now an omen of badwill descended upon such a good season *knocks woods*.

Was about 9 mins remaining in the 4th. It sucks that it happened, but it's part of the game. It's easy to second guess decisions after the fact, but I honestly can't say it was a bad call to have the starters still in the game. Legitimate arguments can be made to support either school of thought. I do think the Croyle situation last year was a little bit different than this (mainly considering his history of being injury prone, the fact that there was no depth in the QB position, etc.), so I don't think the two are really an apples to apples comparison. Sounds like Prothro's surgery went well Saturday night, and hopefully he'll be able to participate in spring practice. I hope he makes a full recovery, because it would be a shame to see his potential wasted by this unfortunate injury.

First off, I didn't compare team skill, team accomplishments(even national titles,) or coaching experience. I drew comparisons between the situations, which were valid, and you ignored them while attempting to flame me for whichever reason you choose to embrace. All that said, I'd still like to see USC's offense against Alabama's defense this year!

I find it hard to believe Spurrier excelled in the SEC playing his second stringers consistantly. I'll fully admit I was never a follower of the Gators during his tenure, but I doubt he played them as much as you're implying.

I know this is vv etc etc but you have serious problems having a discussion of any type it seems. Maybe it's just me that riles you up for some reason I'm unaware of, though. Most people in the sports forum don't react nearly as harshly for a difference of opinion though!

The fact is Alabama's not as deep as most teams, and even in a blowout type situation their starters are likely to stay on the field longer than normal. This is due mostly to the probation of the last few years, and there's not much Shula can do about it this year.

It's just not worth the risk of putting walk-ons on the field to 'clean up' the #5 team in the nation until the clock gets low enough there's no possibility of them catching up.

I'd just like to point out that Alabama now that they are off sanctions will more than likely remain in the top 15 for the next few years. SEC football is and has always been the heartbeat of College football - Yes even Florida too.

It's absolutely true that Spurrier rotated a carousel of receivers in, but remember that he ran 4 and 5 wide more times every game than most teams do all season. The only position he usually didn't do this until late in games was the QB, but there were a few years of the two-headed monster where he certainly tried.

The SEC has more teams in the top 25 almost every year than any other confrence. There is also a reason its very rare to see an undefeted team in the SEC unlike many of the other confrences. SC should have played LSU in the Suger Bowl and played Aburn last year. I'm not saying they would have won or lost but I can tell you they would have been much better games.

I would love to see LSU go to the Rose Bowl this year but I think they had way to many distractions to worry about seeing most of the players come from the Katrina/Rita areas.

I do agree though Shula should have pulled his first string but injurys can happen at any time its an unfortuante part of the game.
