Burned out what next?

Post by sarlen »

Way burned out on the games I have been playing, looking for a MMO/heavy PVP game with tons of people (tired of deserted Sony game servers) any suggestions? Here is the list of games I played and honestly to boring to go back to
SWG

EQ2

There are currently several worthy shooters and upcoming shooters that I'd suggest visiting a different genre for a change. If none of the four listed MMO's keep you entertained, I think you'll just be disappointed by what's left. I've been addicted to Rome: Total War lately, as well as Battlefield 2.

BF2 and CS:S (as well as HL2:DM) have been keeping my attention. I used to hate FPS's until I found BF1942.

Vanguard is the answer to everything. It will be the bestest game anyone has ever created. Ever!

It'll be innovative and different, just like WoW! Exceeding the limits of MMO!

Actually, it sounds like just old EQ, with some more flash and pomp. That's why I'll be buying it.

I thought DAOC had a really good PVP experience. Might want to check into that.

On a side note: I wish you could play Rome: Total War multiplayer beyond just doing a battle with one other person. It would be cool to have 4 or more folks playing and then have them all meet in one area with their armies to duke it out.

GuildWars is fun, it has a good graphics, a decent enough storyline, and no monthly charges. No serious complaints in the couple months I've been playing it.

I can't really criticize Vanguard too much cause I haven't read much on it at all. But it just seems like everyone is jumping on the

"omg the next mmorpg is gonna so be better then all the rest"

Bandwagon. Everyone did this same thing for all the past ones that have came out since eq and half have ended up being dissappointed, and 8 months later 80% of the people aren't playing anymore.

Like I said, I don't know much about the game yet so I can't make a real educated comment on it specifically yet, but does anyone else see this pattern happening ?

The screenshots released of Vanguard look shit in my opinion. Obviously they will look better as release nears *in theory* but I think the whole style looks crap compared to WoW.

No doubt it could well still be a brilliant game, EQ wasn't the 'coolest' looking game when I started playing it and I still got hopelessly addicted to it.

Not that EQ looked crap, there just were other games of a higher graphics standard about.

I've never really been an "eyecandy" man. To me, the graphics are a distant last place to everything else about the game. How is it that we have advanced Playstation games out there, and yet I still always come back to FF3 and FF7? Or my favorite computer game is an old DOS game called Darklands? It's all about the gameplay, and if Brad and his team deliver an "old style EQ" type game with some new features, I'll definitely be playing.

Because roleplaying games don't require graphics. If I was playing Far Cry on Final Fantasy VII graphics (triangular hands and pyramid hair and all), I'd be a bit disappointed. Better graphics, however, would not make Final Fantasy VII a better game.

I've never needed an MMO to have stellar graphics. Why was UO so much fun for such a long time, even after games such as WoW came out? Although, to be honest, cartoons don't qualify as good graphics in my opinion. The graphics don't make the game; I usually try and let the game itself do that, and not the visual candy that is made so often now to supplement actual gameplay. Lineage 2 had wonderful graphics, and we all know how that game played. Even if Vanguard doesn't set a standard for a brave new world of graphics, that's fine with me. Just give me an addicting and fun game, and I'll be more than happy.

What's the ETA on this game? With just a few concept art pictures available, it doesn't look like "Second half of 2005" is accurate.
