Kotor 1 and 2
Morrowind
I hear a lot of people liked Kingdom Hearts, didnt like it myself. A sequel is comming soon.
Sudeki had a really nice engine, just the story blew.
Stay away from Xenosaga 1 and 2. First one was ok. The engine had little depth and the story was way too short. Plus the action and plot advancement was way out of balance. The second one had a much more in depth battle system, but focuses way too much on side stuff rather than main story. Plus the action sequences (think cgi but using game engine) are pretty weak in both of them, they really need a new director.

I can give you a list of good RPGs but most of them are a little older, however if you have an SNES Emulator and haven't played one of them yet I guarantee you'll enjoy it:
Chrono Trigger (SNES)
Fallout 1 or 2 (2 is better, both for PC Windows)
Baldurs Gate 1 or 2 (Best PC RPGs I've played, 2 is the best)
Earthbound (Sorta geared toward younger kids with plenty of adult humor, SNES)
Kotor 1 is also good, but I'd place that in the action genre if I had to pick
Morrowind feels like EQ right after the servers come up and there's about 1 other person on the entire server (lonely huge game with almost 0 dynamic NPCs)

Re: RPG's
Sadly, you've listed basically all of the good ones of the current era. I've been trying to get my hands on Xenogears for a while now, but not surprisingly, I've come up empty-handed. You could try to PS2 sorta-sequal "Xenosaga". It's cutscene-heavy as all hell, but addictive. Fire up your old SNES emulator, or check out the re-releases of the old FF/Chrono Trigger games for the PS1. I wasn't disappointed by them.Drasta wrote:anyone know of any good RPG's that are along the line of ....
Xenogears
Star Ocean
Chrono Cross
Final Fantasy
something like that need a new video game to play ... hehehe

Earthbound is a great game. I remember it being kind of hard, but then again I played it right when it came out, and I was probably pretty young.Neziroth wrote:I can give you a list of good RPGs but most of them are a little older, however if you have an SNES Emulator and haven't played one of them yet I guarantee you'll enjoy it:

It was a lot of fun though, definately one I would recommend.
xenogears was great, but I somehow got stuck at the end of the game. I can't remember how, but I think I saved at a spot where I couldn't go back and had to go forward.. if you see what im saying, and I was no where near strong enough to kill the boss. Kinda sucked.

The creators of StarOcean just released Radiata Stories. I'd probably buy this if I knew I had the time to play it. The game hasn't gotten the best ratings all around...but then again neither did the last StarOcean. Humping scenery with the 'X' button is even more exciting now that you can kick things... you can also kick people which also "serves as an alternate form of communication".
Maybe try checking out "Shadow Hearts: Covenant" too. I bought it used and played some but haven't had the time to actually get very far in it. Some folks recommend you play through "Shadow Hearts" to get a better understanding of the story. Honestly though, you could just read up about it on the internet like I did.
Chrono Trigger was rereleased with Final Fantasy IV for the PS1 as Final Fantasy Chronicles.
Play these or die!
Shadow of the Colossus comes out next month. Check out the video preview on GameSpot. It's not really a RPG but it's something different and I kinda dig the concept..
If you're still looking for Xenogears or any old game, try Amazon.com. Lookie! I usually get CD's/games from the Used and New section as it's usually a lot cheaper. I've bought some crap from the first seller (Kana Direct) and received my stuff in about a week in perfect condition.

I remember earthbound being hard too, when i was like 10, cant remember when I got it. I played it a few weeks ago on a emulator. When you can speed up the game, the game is INCREDIBLY easy. It is completely level driven. Its actually quite easy to level. Think of the monsters giving you WC dervs exp, but at orc3 difficulty.Funkmasterr wrote:Earthbound is a great game. As for xenogear, I know exactly what you are talking about. If you arnt prepared correctly, the fight is nearly impossible. basically if you focused all your upgrades on 3 gears (like most do) you have no choice but to straight for the main boss, and when he has the abilties of the 4, its nearly impossible. However, if all the gears in your party are up to par, you can take out the side bosses easy, and make the main boss a punk

I still think the 3rd ramseis fight is the hardest fight in the game. Miang can be prepared for easy, but you just cant prepare much for ramseis, that fucker.
A final thought, Xenogears would make an amazing series. Plenty of story and action to make a 20-30ish episode series.
